These valves prevent blood from flowing back into the atria. When the ventricles relax, the blood pressure drops below that in the artery, and the semilunar valves (aortic and pulmonary) close, producing the higher-pitched ‘dup’ sound. Malfunctions of these valves often produce an audible murmur, which can be detected with a stethoscope.
Aortic Stenosis - Severe 2 #26
Above this velocity and beyond an obstruction, blood flow is turbulent (creates sound). Blood flow speeds when an artery or a heart valve is narrowed. The major cause of cardiac murmur is the disease of the heart valves. When the orifice of a valve is narrowed (stenosis), blood flow through it …

B. Why is the 1st heart sound of different intensity and duration than the 2nd heart sound? C. Where would you place your stethoscope to hear sounds associated with: 1. tricuspid valve in a tall, skinny person or short, obese person? 2. mitral valve. 3. aortic valve. 4. pulmonic valve. D. Where is the BEST place (auscultatory site) to hear: 1. S1 ?

Aortic Stenosis. The aortic valve may fail to open completely and cause obstruction to outflow of blood from the left ventricle. A common cause of aortic valve stenosis is congenital fusion of valve leaflets (bicuspid aortic valve). The murmur of aortic stenosis is systolic, harsh and best heard at the upper right sternum often radiating into ...

murmur: sound of blood under high pressure passing through a small hole, such as a valve defect. heart block: dissociates the contraction of atria and ventricles. The ventricles beat at a slower rate.

L = aortic. massive, requires stronger backflow. snap shut. smaller opening increases flow velocity. subject to mechanical abrasion. abnormalities. murmur – abnormal heart sound, usu resulting from left valve defect (can be right) stenosis - failure of valves to fully open (narrowing)

Usually followed by soft systolic murmur. ( Ejection sounds : Aortic ejection sound : Occurs immediately after S1 , loud and clicky , heard best at the apex but can be heard well all over the pricordium , Usually signifies congenital valvular aortic stenosis , not seen in sclerotic calcified valves.
