Patients with a positive sentinel lymph node, the current standard of care is to remove all of the remaining lymph nodes from the area that the sentinel lymph node was removed from. This is recommended on the basis that up to one in five patients with a positive sentinel lymph node will have other lymph nodes with melanoma remaining in the area.
