The regimental roster implies a year of birth of ca. 1818, whereas the Town Clerk's Register for Lisbon, St. Lawrence County, N.Y., lists the date of birth as May 15, 1815 (or May 10, 1810). A bronze plaque recently affixed to the gravestone by one of John's descendents shows a year of birth of 1814, but there is no year of birth engraved on the original gravestone.
