Parallel resistors have all have the same pd across them but the currents add, so: Itot = V / Rtot = V / R1 + V / R2 etc... then divide by V to get the familiar formula. Beware that the parallel formula is usually quoted as 1 / Rtot so they still have to take the reciprocal to get the value of Rtot.

When resistors are connected in parallel, the supply current is equal to the sum of the currents through each resistor. In other words the currents in the branches of a parallel circuit add up to the supply current. When resistors are connected in parallel, they have the same potential difference across them.

Extension of equation A-11 to three sets of orthogonal fractures using resistors in parallel gives. (A-15) With vertical current flow and with f below 0.1, equations A-14 and A-15 yield a maximum difference of 2.0 percent. At f of below 0.01, the maximum difference is less than 0.1 percent.

In a parallel circuit the voltage is the same on each loop. This is because as the current is shared each coulomb (truck) only passes through one loop so transfers all its energy to that component. So, in a parallel circuit the potential difference of the cell and the components are equal
