Black iron fittings are ferrous metal and can spark. Brass, made of copper and zinc, is nonferrous, and will not spark. Anhydrous ammonia stored in a tank with brass safety and control valves will eventually cause them to corrode, so the valves fail or become inoperative. Anhydrous ammonia does not have this effect on black iron.
