Protocol for Administering the DRA
The DRA level is based on a reader’s instructional level. Instructional level is determined to be an accuracy rate of 90-95% with adequate comprehension and fluency. Fluency does not need to be a consideration for determining the level until a student hits level 6 of DRA.

Use the DRA to find the student’s Independent Reading Level. A student’s Independent Reading Level is the DRA Level at which they read with at least 94% accuracy and have Adequate (16) comprehension. If the student does not score at Adequate Comprehension, STOP the assessment. Do not continue that book or proceed to a higher level.
