Esophageal cancer - Diagnosis and treatment - Mayo Clinic
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy is the examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract, which includes the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). A flexible tube attached to a powerful light source is passed into the mouth and guided through the esophagus, stomach and duodenum for direct observation of the lining of these areas.

Remove the stomach by cutting through the esophagus where it joins the stomach. Be careful not to injure the circumesophageal connectives of the nervous system which pass around the esophagus near this point. Cut the stomach open along the mid-ventral line and examine the gastric mill, the excretory organs (green glands).
