Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing is based upon the federal Fair Housing Act. Congress passed The Fair Housing Act on April 11, 1968. The Act prohibits discrimination in all housing transactions on the basis of race, national origin, sex, color, religion, person with disabilities (handicap), and familial status (i.e., households with/without children).
