Krebs cycle- Takes place in matrix of mitochondria when oxygen is present Coenzyme A picks up 2 carbons from pyruvic acid to form acetyl-CoA and feeds these carbons into the Krebs cycle to produce 6-carbon CITRIC ACID. During cycle carbons are removed and released as CO2 Each pyruvic acid generates 3 carbon dioxide, 1 ATP, 1 FADH2 and 4 NADH.
