Life after aortic valve replacement
Fig 1 Aortic valve stenosis - ResearchGate
Aortic Stenosis. The aortic valve may fail to open completely and cause obstruction to outflow of blood from the left ventricle. A common cause of aortic valve stenosis is congenital fusion of valve leaflets (bicuspid aortic valve). The murmur of aortic stenosis is systolic, harsh and best heard at the upper right sternum often radiating into ...
Patient's Lifespan After Heart Valve Replacement Surgery
A postoperatively elevated BNP level was a predictor of heart failure after aortic valve replacement, although its discriminatory ability was relatively poor. Paper III. Prosthesis-patient mismatch did not impair the recovery of diastolic function or left ventricular mass regression.

Without aortic valve replacement, severe aortic stenosis is life-threatening and previous studies have shown that patients have a survival rate as low as 50% at 2 years after the onset of symptoms.ⱡ Our multi-disciplinary Heart Team takes a rigorous approach to patient care.

The same result was achieved by Walther et al [10]. They found that regression of left ventricular hypertrophy occurs in all patients after aortic valve replacement but is enhanced after stentless valve implantation. Williams et al [11] studied left ventricular mass using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 1 week, 6 months, and 32 months.

We report a study on valve re-replacement (reoperation) in a series of patients undergoing aortic valve replacement with cryopreserved allograft valves. The study group included 898 patients who underwent aortic valve replacement (primary and subsequent valve replacements) with cryopreserved allograft valves for a 23 year period (1975-1998).
