Lumbar facet pain icd 10
What is facet syndrome lumbar?
Lumbar facet syndrome is a form of arthritis that affects the facet joints within the lumbar spine (lower back). The facet joints are the hinges where the vertebrae meet; these hinges allow the vertebrae to bend and move, ultimately giving flexibility to the spine.
What causes facet joint pain?
Two of the most common problems that cause facet joint pain include osteoarthritis and whiplash. The bones of the facets are lined with cartilage, which cushions the joint. Osteoarthritis of the spine occurs when the cartilage wears out, resulting in bone on bone articulation of the facet joint.
How is lumbar facet arthropathy diagnosed?
It is possible that facet arthropathy also carries this risk factor. Facet joint damage can be diagnosed from an imaging test. A doctor can make a diagnosis of facet arthropathy using imaging tests. These tests look at the bones and joints in the spine to identify damage to the facet joints.
How is the pain from lumbar facet arthropathy characterized?
Lumbar facet joint disorders most commonly cause lower back pain that is characterized by a localized ache with some degree of stiffness . This pain is usually worse in the morning or after periods of inactivity. In case of spinal nerve root impingement, radicular leg pain (sciatica) may occur.
