I had many doctor appointments in the next several weeks to determine what treatment plan I would have. I chose to fight aggressively and had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction on April 20, 2015. It was a 13 hour surgery. My family and friends were in the waiting room the entire time.

The option of delayed reconstruction at a later date is available but it is more difficult. This is because when we do an immediate reconstruction we usually preserve most of the skin but the breast tissue beneath the skin is removed. When the mastectomy is finished the Plastic Surgery team completes the first phase of the immediate reconstruction.
