      Took the old “DZ” transmission as a core when buying a used “DK” transmission out of an air-cooled gasoline engine Vanagon (which I think were only made from ’80 to ’83). I got the used tranny at BW Auto Dismantlers in Roseville, CA, just east of Sacramento.

With FSS paper filters are fine. Starting with MY2007 diesel engines must use only 229.51 approved engine oil. 229.51 is only approved for diesel engines.

      Though we're not yet seeing many all-aluminum engines in the aftermarket, a growing number of engines with all-aluminum blocks (no liners) are being built by the OEMs. Tim Meara of Sunnen says both Mercedes and Porsche have aluminum blocks that use an alloy similar to that used by Chevrolet in the Vega engine years ago.
