Multiple nodules of lung
What are lung nodules and what sneaky thing causes them?
Lung nodules are small growths found in lung tissue. Pulmonary nodules can be benign or cancerous. Benign nodules are caused by diseases which cause inflammation of lung tissue. Infections and autoimmune diseases are the most common causes of benign nodules on lungs.
What are lung nodules and do they go away?
Answer: Benign nodules can go away or they can stay the same. If a nodule does not grow over a period of 2 years on serial x-rays it is labeled benign and no longer requires following. If your husband is not a smoker he is at low risk for primary lung cancer.
Are nodules in the lungs and liver always a sign of cancer?
Liver nodules are not always a sign that cancer is present, as some liver nodules and tumors can be benign, according to the American Cancer Society. To determine if a nodule is benign or malignant (cancerous) a liver biopsy can be performed, as stated by Mayo Clinic.
What size lung nodule is worrisome?
They appear as round, white shadows on a chest X-ray or computerized tomography (CT) scan. Lung nodules are usually about 0.2 inch (5 millimeters) to 1.2 inches (30 millimeters) in size. A larger lung nodule, such as one that's 30 millimeters or larger, is more likely to be cancerous than is a smaller lung nodule.
Diffuse Pulmonary Nodules
Multiple lung nodules may have a random or centrilobular pattern. Random nodules can have variable density and are most often uniformly distributed (Fig. 2). The nodules are typically of hematogenous origin and thus are situated close to small vessels. They may also occur near the pleural surfaces.

Lung nodules are abnormal spots that may show up on your lung cancer screening scan. Doctors may call them lesions, coin lesions or solitary pulmonary nodules (SPN). Lung nodules are very common – at least 50% of people have them by the time they are 50 years old. The challenge is figuring out which nodules are or will become cancer.

When is it appropriate to biopsy a patient with a lung nodule? • Biopsy is of no use in patients with a high risk of cancer who are good surgical candidates • For this group, the “biopsy” is a surgical procedure • Biopsy people who need a diagnosis to facilitate treatment • Medically or anatomically unresectable • Make sure biopsy yields an unequivocal stage

Commonly called a “spot on the lung” or a “shadow,” a nodule is a round area that is more dense than normal lung tissue. It shows up as a white spot on a CT scan. Lung nodules are usually caused by scar tissue, a healed infection that may never have made you sick, or some irritant in the air. Sometimes, a nodule can be an early lung cancer.

An increasing number of lung cancer patients are encountered that have multiple sub-solid nodules (either pure ground glass or part-solid) on CT examination. The pathologic correlates of this appearance are lepidic predominant adenocarcinoma (LPA), minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA), or adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) with or without other subtypes of adenocarcinoma as lesser …

Multiple Lung Nodules: Causes and Diagnosis
Multiple part-solid nodules with a solid component that changes from < 6mm to > 6mm have been found to represent multiple synchronous primary lung cancers. Aggressive lung sparing resection of these lesions has been shown to be clinically beneficial for all histologies except mucinous adenocarcinoma.

Lung abscess. MULTIPLE. Metastases – usually well defined, nodules of varying size, more common in the lower lobes but can occur anywhere. Cavitation may be seen in squamous cell tumours, and sarcomas. Metastases are the commonest cause of multiple lung nodules. The X-ray appearances give no indication of the primary site.
