Noaa satellite imagery
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
At NESDIS, data from NOAA’s geostationary satellites and composite images are processed for use by the weather forecaster. These satellite images and other non-NOAA satellite imagery and products are then transmitted to the NCF for distribution to AWIPS over the SBN. Ten routers provide the AWIPS-NESDIS routing function.

The GOES-R series of spacecraft, set to launch in 2015, is expected to double the clarity of today’s satellite imagery and provide at least 20 times more atmospheric observations from space. The next-generation GOES system will provide significantly improved image resolution and increase the rate of imagery coverage of earth surfaces from ...

Surface observations are overlaid on the satellite imagery, and a cold front is analyzed to the west. Figure 5. AMSU temperature imagery from NOAA-18 overpass of the unnamed subtropical storm at 1517 UTC 4 October. Channel 5 image from approximately 550 mb is on the left, while a channel 7 image from approximately 200 mb is on the right.

On May 20, the Satellite Products and Services Review Board (SPSRB) approved for operations the new eTRaP (Ensemble Tropical Rainfall Potential). The product output is imagery and data of tropical storm rainfall totals and probabilities of precipitation for 6-hourly and 24-hour total time bins, for 4 accumulated rainfall thresholds.

Proposed flight pattern (Fig. 1) should take place when microwave satellite imagery indicates the presence of asymmetric rainbands occurring in the storm environment. Pattern: Fly a combination of a rotated Figure-4 and a rainband spiral along the inside edge of the rainband, within ~5-10 nm of the inner edge of the rainband.

The low-resolution geostationary and polar satellite images are produced at the NOAA Environmental Satellite Processing Center (ESPC) facility in Suitland, Maryland. This GOES imagery is created from the retransmitted GVAR data received at the facility. The ESPC ingests these retransmitted GVAR data streams through a Front End Processor.
