Reg e dispute guidelines
Are authorized transactions subject to Reg E?
Reg E does not treat the following transactions as unauthorized transfers: It is not unauthorized if the customer gave his card and PIN to the person making the transfer unless the customer notified the financial institution that this person is no longer authorized to conduct transactions.
How does Reg E apply to a business?
Reg. E does not cover EFTs with anyone other than a consumer (defined as "a natural person.") To refine that even further, Reg. E applies to accounts of natural persons that are opened and maintained primarily for person, family, or household purposes. So a business account of a sole proprietor (a natural person) would not be covered.
Does Reg E apply to business customers?
Answer by Andy Zavoina: Reg E applies to accounts used for personal, family and household purposes. I believe it is important that when a stack of brochures/disclosures is handed to a new account business customer that your Reg E be omitted or clearly defined as not applicable.
What is Reg E?
Key Takeaways Regulation E outlines rules for electronic funds transfers and provides guidelines for issuers and sellers of debit cards. It was enacted to protect consumers. It's essential for both consumers and financial institutions to have an interest in understanding Regulation E's guidelines.
