The Court decided that students in primary and secondary school should not have the same level of search and seizure protection as adults and as juveniles in non-school settings. The court simulation in this activity uses a fictional scenario that is updated to include the discovery of vaping materials in the backpack of an underage student.

Through intentional marketing practices and bubble gum, fruit, and candy-flavored vaping liquids, the vaping industry is trying to addict our next generation on nicotine. As a result, there has been a 135% increase in high school students vaping since 2017. Most of this marketing occurs through social media and is targeted toward youth.

From 2017 to 2018 there has been a 78% increase in high school students’ vaping. There has been a 48% increase in middle school students’ vaping. In 2019 there were 5.4 Million Middle School and High School students vaping. Teenagers become addicted to the nicotine but also become addicted to the fruity flavors that come with vaping.
