The spleen is located mostly on the left side of the abdomen. Although the body and tail can be in various locations, the head of the spleen is consistently located in the cranial left abdomen, just caudal to the left lobes of the liver. In addition, the head of the spleen is predominantly oriented parallel to the lateral body wall (Fig. 1 SNb).
