There were 7,377 Lancasters produced and 3,249 were lost in action; 55,573 airmen of Bomber Command died in World War II, their average age being 22. 156,000 missions were carried out over the period of the war. Now only 2 Lancasters are able to fly, although I think there are about 14 complete aircraft in the world.

The bomber dived into the sea about half a mile away from the trawler with no survivors. (Special Service) Commando practised a landing at Fishcombe Point, and ‘The Buffs’ did their best to ‘repel’ the assault.
