So weve given you two options: Print the Family Devotion handout and make enough copies for each child to take one home. Email the Family Devotion to families before or after the actual lesson. Have kids form several large groups. Station the groups at different areas in your room. 3. Assign each group a well-known kids praise song that even the youngest members will know. Use songs such as Jesus Loves Me, The B-I-B-L-E, and Deep and Wide. Explain that at your signal, each group should sing its song as loudly as possible. 4. Give the signal, and let the singing begin. Go around the room, cheering on the groups and encouraging them to sing louder and louder. If you have time, have groups switch songs and play again. 5. Give the signal again to stop the singing. Start the Fireworks Countdown (Quarter 8/Countdown Track 1) on the LIVE Childrens Curriculum (Year 2) DVD to signal kids to gather together. When the countdown ends, SAY: Wow! I think that was the loudest start Ive ever heard! Way to go! ASK: Which group do you think sang the loudest? Point to each group, and let kids express their preferences by applause. SAY: Great job! Lets clap for everyone! Lead kids in a round of applause for all groups. You know, even though this was just a fun game to see who could sing the loudest, it actually reminds me of something the Bible says. Listen to this. Ask a child to come up and read aloud Psalm 100:1 for the large group. SAY: See? Were supposed to shout with joy to the Lord! Today were going to explore how we can remember to praise God. Lets see what we can discover. Are you ready? Pause. I cant hear you! I said, are you ready? Keep asking until kids are shouting yes as loudly as possible. LETS EXPLORE! Supplies: assembled Bible Exploration Kits, Putting God First: Remembering What God Has Done (Year 2/Quarter 8) CD, CD player 1. Have kids form Bible crews of four. SAY: Praising God is telling God how great he is. Its almost like being a cheerleader for God. Check out what Psalm 100 has to say about cheering for God. Ask a couple children to read Psalm 100 aloud. ASK: Why do you think God deserves our praise? In your own life, what are things you can praise God for? 2. SAY: Lets make something to help us be Gods cheerleaders and praise God for his amazing love! Ask kids to take the Shout to the Lord handout from their Bible Exploration Kits. Have kids also remove the paper, scissors, paper towel rolls, markers, and tape from their Bible Exploration Kits. Tell kids to follow steps 1 through 4 on the handout to make the megaphones. As kids work, play Let Us Bow Down in Worship (Psalm 95:6-7) (Track 6) from the Putting God First: Remembering What God Has Done (Year 2/Quarter 8) CD in the background. 3. When everyone has finished making the megaphones, let kids show off their creations to each other. SAY: You know, your megaphones remind me of a pep rally you might have in school. Usually in a pep rally, the room is decorated with lots of posters to cheer your crew on. Lets get to work making some signs for God! Have a volunteer from each crew come get a few sheets of poster board or newsprint. Encourage crews to use the markers in the Bible Exploration Kits to make a few signs cheering God on. Signs might say, Yea, God! or The Lord is Good! When kids have finished, let them hang their signs on the wall. 4. SAY: Looks like the only thing were missing for our pep rally is some pompoms. Better get back to work! Have kids remove the drinking straws, crepe paper, scissors, and tape from their Bible Exploration Kits. Have them cut the crepe paper into 1-inch strips about a foot long. Demonstrate how to tape the strips to one end of a straw to make a pompom. 5. SAY: OK, now were almost ready! All you need to do is read the last paragraph of your handout, and do what it says. Give crews time to make up cheers for God based on Psalm 100. When crews are ready, give each crew a chance to perform its cheer for the large group. After each presentation, encourage kids to cheer for the presenting crew by yelling encouragement through their megaphones. 6. Then have kids sit and answer these questions in their crews. After each question, invite kids from each crew to share their answers with the large group. ASK: What was your favorite part of our pep rally for God and why? How do you like to praise God in your everyday life? How often do you praise God? How could you praise him more? SAY: God deserves our praise, big time! Just like the Bible says, God made uswe belong to him. God is good, and his love never ends. Those are just a few of the reasons we can remember to praise God every day! Lets start right now! LETS PRAISE! Supplies: Putting God First: Remembering What God Has Done (Year 2/Quarter 8) CD, LIVE Childrens Curriculum (Year 2) DVD, CD player, TV/DVD player 1. Encourage kids to use their megaphones and pompoms as they sing the following songs. 2. Set up the Putting God First: Remembering What God Has Done (Year 2/Quarter 8) CD or the LIVE Childrens Curriculum (Year 2) DVD. PLAY: God Loved the World So Much (John 3:16) (CD Track 5) (DVD Quarter 8/Track 5) Here we are, here we are, And were feeling alive Cause Jesus saved our lives. Jesus made us see. God is love; God is good. God is bigger than sin. Its easy to let him in. All you gotta do is believe. (Chorus) God loved the world so much he gave his only Son. God loved the world so much he gave his only Son, So whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. We can try, we can try but its not enough. We cant earn Gods love because its already free. So give it up, give it up, Give your sin to the Lord. You know you can be sure hes all that you will need. Supplies: Putting God First: Remembering What God Has Done (Year 2/Quarter 8) CD, CD player, markers, megaphones Lets Explore! 1. SAY: Its good to praise God in song. Now lets quiet things down and talk to God. ASK: What kinds of things do you usually pray about? SAY: If youre anything like me, you might spend a lot of your prayer time asking God for things. But today weve been learning how good it is to remember to praise God, too. So lets pray without asking God for anything. Lets pray to praise him! 2. Have kids each remove a pen from the Bible Exploration Kits. Explain that youll give kids time to write a praise prayer on the inside or outside of their megaphones. Play the instrumental version of You Gave (John 14:19) (Track 12) from the Putting God First: Remembering What God Has Done (Year 2/Quarter 8) CD quietly in the background as kids work. 3. When you see that kids have finished writing, close the prayer by thanking God for being so worthy of praise. Ask God to help everyone in the group remember to praise him during the coming week. HIGH FIVES Supplies: none As they leave, encourage kids to give three people high fives with one hand as they hold their megaphones with the other. Encourage kids to shout a praise phrase to God as they give each high five. FOR-EXTRA-TIME ACTIVITIES Never-ending Love Supplies: paper, scissors, tape, pens Remind kids that Psalm 100 says that Gods love continues forever. Demonstrate how to make a Mbius strip by holding a strip of paper by both ends, twisting it once, and taping the ends together. After kids make their own strips, demonstrate how to draw a line on the outside of the strip. The line continues on the inside of the strip to form an unending circle. Encourage kids to show the strips to a friend this week and share how Gods love never ends. Sheep Snacks Supplies: marshmallows, thin pretzel sticks, napkins Have kids read Psalm 100 again. Then let them make sheep snacks to remind them that were the sheep of Gods pasture. They can use pretzel sticks to hold a marshmallow body and head together and add pretzel legs. Hiding It in Your Heart Supplies: pompoms from Lets Explore! Have kids read Psalm 100:4 aloud together. Then have kids sit in a circle with their pompoms. Have kids take turns around the circle shaking the pompom and saying a name for God or a description of God. Kids might say, God, Lord, Father, Savior, mighty and forgiving. Create a Bible Dictionary Supplies: paper, markers, dictionary, CD player, Putting God First: Remembering What God Has Done (Year 2/Quarter 8) CD Ask kids to create one or more pages, each with a new word, for a Bible dictionary.
