Held in partnership with the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirates dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, Design Days Dubai is a forward-thinking concept that presents exclusive and limited edition furniture, objects and works by international designers. Bringing a fresh dimension to the regions arts and design scene, Design Days Dubai aims to be a flagship regional design event and global forum for attracting leading international design galleries, collectors, designers, critics and curators. Design Days Dubai will be held from March 18-21, 2012 at a purpose-built venue in Downtown Dubai, the flagship development of Emaar Properties, and a leading centre for arts and culture. The venue is by the base of Burj Khalifa, the worlds tallest building. The fair, along with world-renowned contemporary art fair Art Dubai, is an integral part of Art Week, a broad programme of cultural events taking place across the United Arab Emirates during the month of March. We are excited to present the first fair in the regionfocusing on rare and limited edition design, says Cyril Zammit, Fair Director. Dubai is established as the regional centre for contemporary art, and is a city known for its innovative approach to architecture: now is the perfect time to launch a major new event dedicated to contemporary design. The 22 participating galleries represent some of the worlds top-tier galleries specializing in 20th and 21st century collectible design and serve as a testament to the Fairs expectations to draw influential clients and collectors from the region and industry luminaries from around the world. "We are interested in expanding the gallerys outreach into new markets and regions, this fair is a fantastic opportunity. We have recently had a lot of contact from collectors in the Middle East so there is a clearly a growing interest and we are excited to bring these works so that people can experience them firsthand" says Zesty Meyers, Principal of R 20th Century (New York). Among the emerging galleries are Sao Paulos +Coletivo Amor de Madre and Seouls Croft gallery who have both chosen Design Days Dubai for their first showcase of work outside their respective countries. Says Olivia Yassudo Faria of +Coletivo Amor de Madre: Last year, I had the opportunity to stopover in Dubai and I was immediately certain that it was the place for us to start our international enterprise. Dubai is a fantastic place and an open-minded market, willing to bet on new solutions, new material and ways of working and that is what +Coletivo Amor de Madre is about. With a fantastic list of galleries from all over the world and educational programme, we believe Design Days Dubai will quickly establish itself as a forum for exploring contemporary and historic design both in the region and globally and address the growing demand for investment choices in art and design. These things combined make for incredibly exciting starting point, says Zammit. SayHumberto and Fernando Campana: "The interest and commitment to culture in the Gulf is reflected by an unprecedented rise of galleries, artist spaces and museums, and will undoubtedly be an inspiration for artists.
