ࡱ> MOL_ Gbjbj .Dbb)8<,h $ ~v Z[I|SRx0 ,+!L+!+!\ +! : Who is Mrs. Paxton? My name is Hannah Paxton. I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. I moved to the Cleveland area in 2011. This will be my seventh year teaching third grade. I have my bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education (Pre K-3), and my Masters in Educational Administration. I live with my husband and our three dogs Cocoa, Jack, and Yeager. What can I expect my child to learn? This year you can expect your child to learn the course of study in math, reading, language arts, spelling, science, social studies, health, and specialty classes. In addition, your child will learn independent work habits such as: time management, organization, and study skills. Finally, your child will develop social skills as they learn to work together with other students in a variety of groupings. What will be new to my child? What will be familiar? FamiliarNewReading: We will read and write every day in class. Your child will be expected to read daily at home and complete reading activities which practice different reading skills. Plan book: Your child will be given a book in which we will record all assignments each day. Please review the plan book with your child each night and sign it to indicate that you are aware of your childs responsibilities. Math: We use the same Everyday Math program in third grade that your child has used since Kindergarten at Goldwood. However, we will not be using every lesson or homework as these do not all align with the new common core standards.Math Facts: (-, +, x, /) It is extremely important that your child is practicing their basic math facts at home nightly. Fluency with basic math facts will help your child experience greater success with math. * Your child must memorize the basic multiplication facts 0-10.Fundations: We use the same spelling/phonics program in third grade that your child used in K-2. More complex spelling patterns will be introduced this year. Cursive Handwriting: Your child will be learning upper and lower case cursive letters this year. We will be practicing each week.Lunch/Recess: Students will need to have a healthy full lunch each day. Please send your child to school with appropriate clothes for outdoor play each day. Fun Lunch/Pizza Day: Please refer to the Kensington homepage to learn more about this great opportunity. What volunteer opportunities are there in my childs classroom? -Guest reader - Preparing materials at home - Field trips - Classroom parties - Playing math games with students -Donating classroom materials How can I contact Mrs. Paxton? Email: This is the quickest and easiest way to contact me. My email address is : HYPERLINK "mailto:Paxton.hannah@rrcs.org" Paxton.hannah@rrcs.org Plan book: I check these daily and will occasionally write a quick note in these regarding individual celebrations, behavior, and or reminders. Telephone: Please call the office at 356-6770 and they will direct your phone call to my extension. Conference: These take place in November. If you need to review progress before or after that time please email me for an appointment. What homework assignments can we expect? I only assign homework Monday through Thursday. Students are expected to complete and return their homework each day. Homework assignments will always be a review of what your child is learning in class. Please note that I will not grade every homework assignment. Instead, I will choose one random homework assignment each week and enter that grade into the grade book. I will be checking homework daily to see that it is completed. Occasionally I will assign projects that will extend over the weekend. Students will be given plenty of time to complete these projects. All projects will be graded.
