Pre-PT students who enter the DPT program will continue to be undergraduate students until they receive the BS in Health Sciences at the successful completion of their fourth year (i.e. the first year of the DPT). The first qualified applicants from high school will be admitted to the Pre-PT program in the fall of 2003 (final admission to the freshman year of the present MPT program will be fall 2002). No more than 45 students will be admitted to the Pre-PT program each year. Pre-PT students who have successfully completed the undergraduate Pre-PT curriculum will be combined with DPT applicants to arrive at 45 students per DPT class. Introduction: The three-year Pre-PT Curriculum is designed for traditional, freshman-admit students who wish to enter an early path to the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. Certain undergraduate transfer students may also wish to enter the Pre-PT Curriculum. Students who successfully complete the Pre-PT Curriculum can enter the DPT program in their fourth year of study. They will continue to be undergraduate students until they receive a BS in Health Sciences at the completion of their fourth year (i.e. the completion of the first year of the DPT program). These students will be able to acquire the DPT in six years of study. This schedule affords the University a competitive advantage for students who are certain of their career choice upon high-school graduation. Students who complete the three-year Pre-PT curriculum but do not enter the DPT program may, with the approval and guidance of the PCPS Advising Center, complete an additional 36.5 credits to receive the BS in Health Sciences. Pre-PT students who do not enter the DPT program also may transfer to other majors (with the approval and guidance of the major department and the appropriate advising center). Degree requirements for other majors vary. The Pre-PT Curriculum comprises three academic years with no required intersession or summer session coursework. It includes all of the courses that are prerequisite for the University of Scranton DPT program (and for many other DPT programs). It includes Curriculum 2000 general education requirements. Three of the courses are within the major (Freshman Seminar, Exploring PT, Medical Terminology), and the remaining courses are from other departments. Pre-PT Admission Requirements: One year each of high-school biology, chemistry, and physics High-school mathematics through trigonometry High-school science and math grade point average of 3.5 (on 4.0 scale) SAT score of 1100 Good record of extracurricular (especially service-oriented) activities Ten hours physical therapy experience with a positive recommendation from supervising physical therapist Overall high-school grade point average of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) Advancement to DPT Program: Pre-PT students who meet the following criteria are advanced to the DPT program: Successful completion of all courses specified in the Pre-PT Curriculum GE NSCI and PT courses minimums: C and 3.0 GPA Overall GPA minimum 2.85 (3.0 recommended) Completion of an additional ten hours physical therapy experience with good recommendation from supervising physical therapist Changes from Current MPTAreaDept. and No.Descriptive Title of CourseFallSpringFIRST YEARGE FSEMINTD 100Freshman Seminar1GE WRTG - SPCHwrtg 107 - Comm 100*Composition - Public Speaking33Move from fall to springGE C/ILC/IL 102Computer/Information Literacy3Move from intersession to springGE QUANMATH 103 or 114Pre-Calculus or Analysis I4GE NSCICHEM 112 113General and Analytical Chemistry I-II44GE PHIL - T/RSPHIL 120 - T/RS 121*Intro to Philosophy - Theology I33GE HUMNHUMN ELECTHumanities Elective3AddGE PHEDPHED*Physical Education1No intersession HUMN ELECT16 16 SECOND YEARMove from 1st to 2nd yearGE NSCIBIOL 110 - 111Structure & Function Human Body44GE S/BHPSYC 110 - 221Fund. of Psych. - Childhood & Adol.33Move T/RS from fall to springGE PHIL - T/RSPHIL 210 - T/RS 122*Ethics - Theology II33Move 3 credits from spring to fallGE HUMNHUMN ELECTHumanities Electives33Move from fall year 4 to spring year 2GE QUANPSYC 210Statistics in the Behavioral Sciences3AddGE PHEDPHED*Physical Education1No intersession GE PHIL or T/RS1416THIRD YEARMove from 2nd to 3rd yearGE NSCIPHYS 120-121General Physics44Move from fall year 2 to fall year 3GE NSCIBIOL 245General Physiology4GE NSCIBIO 348Neurophysiology3Move from intersession year 2 to fall 3GE PHIL or T/RSPHIL or T/RS Elective3 Move from intersession yr 1 to spring 3GE HUMNHUMN ELECTHumanities Elective3AddGE PHEDPHED*Physical Education1AddGE FREEELECTIVESElectives33 AddMAJORPT 300(W) Exploring PT 1AddMAJORPT 301Medical Terminology115 15TOTAL 93.5* Either course may be taken either semester.
