English translation: N: Egyptian Arabic, or the Egyptian dialect, and the difference between it and the Fus-ha there are people who do not know that Egyptians speak in Arabic. They think that Egyptians speak what, hieroglyphics, maybe? Hmm. N: I had a friend from Jordan. We had a problem between us about the word jawal. I told her that the word jawal is an Arabic Fus-ha word. She says to me no, it is colloquial; I told her that there are things in the colloquial language that are Fus-ha. S: Yes, because there are things that we use and call it colloquial language, but if we look them up in the dictionary, we find out they are Fus-ha. Also, there are people who say that the Egyptian dialect, in particular, is considered the closest dialect to Fus-ha because it has lots of words that we say that these words are colloquial, though when they looked them up, they found out that it is a very highly standard Arabic (Fus-ha). Also, there is something else: sometimes when a word is used over and over, as time passes, it becomes popular, and that this word doesnt have an alternative; there is no replacement for it to show its meaning, and thats why that word is considered Fus-ha -- because it has an accurate expression; there is no expression as accurate as this word. N: But the colloquial Egyptian was also influenced, I think, by other languages, such as Turkish, and, God Knows, by Farsi, and even English and French. S: It was affected by Italian, and Spanish, and French, and Turkish -- especially Turkish, [which] appeared in names such as Hekmat and Esmat and Nashat . A: And Mervet. S: Mervet is originally Marwa. N: Marwa?? A: Yes, Mervet means Marwa originally, in the Turkish language. N: You know the ward kanaba [sofa], the ward odha [room], the word toka [hair band] . S: But these are French words. N: No, by God, they are Turkish words. A: No toka. N: Kanaba. A: The word kenefe is also French, but I dont know what its origin could be. N: In Turkish, in the Turkish language, they say kanaba, kanaba . A: In French, its called kenefe,JL T V X 0$&np2@żŵŮŧwihA%Y5Z\^J_Ho(hrq5Z\^J_Ho(hrqh6o( hkfIZo( h6Z h6Zo( hA%YZo( hlZo( h{QZo( hmRZo(hCjZ_Ho( hrqZo(hUthUt5\ hUt5\hj%hUt5\ hj%5\ hUt0JjhUtUhUt' V X V X :<& $A$gdA%Y $A$gdl $A$gdrq $A$gdUtgdUt$a$gdUtEEE&|j8t$a$gd~/p$a$gdA%YgdA%YgdUt$a$gdO_ $A$gd6 $A$gdmR-1578: (-4;?GGKOXnos|w | p!q!"""">"?"J"K"huhA%Y5\hCUhA%Y5\h2hA%Y5\hhA%Y5\h,hA%Y6h~/pjhhA%Y0JU hhA%Y hA%Y5\hO_hA%Y5\hA%YhA%Y5\^J_HhUt5\^J_H7 o!p! N: Yes, fenjan is also a word, a Turkish word -- and the coffee, the [coffee] pot & I don t know what they call it & so what s the reason? S: For what? N: That colloquial Egyptian was influenced? S: No, when research was done, it was proven for a fact. I mean, even when we take so many words from our dialogue, you would find it Fus-ha. For example, we pronounce k [deep k], we pronounce it as hamza [a sound]. But, we have, for example, countries like Iraq and The Levant; they have people who pronounce k [regular sound] as a jeem [j sound]. N: Yes. S: Katheer [many] becomes jetheer for instance. N: Jetheer? S: Jetheer -- they don t have kaf [k sound]; jethe [like this] or keda & I mean they don t have the kaf. As for the other languages and how they interfered & .
