" #0P#M! n(n(W!W!n(D"M""MP#n( B : DRIVERS EDUCATION PROJECT STEP 1 Choosing a car Utilizing the world-wide web, you are to research the purchase of a new vehicle of your choice. You may add any options you would like in or on the vehicle. Once you obtain a final price, save all your information, including pictures of your vehicle. (The more, the better. Ie. Exceeding expectations STEP 2 Math and Financing You will be given $5000 as a down payment to purchase your vehicle. You are also approved for a car loan at 2.9% APR for the next 5 years. You are to figure out your monthly car payments for each month for 5 years. SHOW ALL YOUR WORK/MATH. In this step, you need to show the total price of the car, the down payment. Also show how much your vehicle will cost you after paying it off after 60 months, using the loan from the bank. How much of that amount was interest? STEP 3 - Insurance As you know, all NJ drivers must have liability auto insurance. All plans differ, either by rate, deductible, or the amount of money covered. What does obtaining liability insurance mean? What is included in this type of coverage? There are other types of car insurance an insurance company can provide for you to cover you and your vehicle. Name and define those other insurances. What do these types of insurance cover? Be specific. Your parent/guardian has car insurance coverage on their vehicle/vehicles. What coverages did your parent/guardian choose to obtain on their vehicle/vehicles? Why were those coverages chosen? As we have gone over in class from Chapters 1&2, you must be 17 years old to insure a vehicle in the state of New Jersey. Once you reach 17 years old and begin to drive, you will need to be insured. Will you obtain your own insurance policy or will you be put on your parents insurance policy as another driver? Why? Explain. Lastly, in this project, you currently built a brand new vehicle, costing a lot of money. If you were to insure this vehicle on your own policy, what coverage would you choose? Would you choose a low or high deductible? Why? Do you feel you could afford being on your own insurance policy with the new vehicle you built? Do you feel, with the monthly payment of your new car and the monthly payment of the insurance, it would change the way your drove your vehicle? (Would you be more/less cautious?) Explain your answer. STEP 4 Road Trip Choose a location, out of state but in the United States, to take a road trip. Print out the driving directions from the web and include a map. You all are starting your journey from your home in Jackson. STEP 5 Fuel Efficiency Figure out your gas costs on this trip, there AND back. The price of gasoline will be $2.69 a gallon for everyone. SHOW ALL YOUR WORK. STEP 6 - Summary The last step is to write about your experience with all the information you have gathered in this project. Write about how you felt about completing this project. Compile and write about how much a month a car may cost you and how you feel about affording it. Are you still looking forward to buying that particular car? Will you be taking road trips often with how much gas prices are? Will you drive carefully to be sure not to gain points on your license which can in turn be more money out of your pocket? What about if you had an accident? Would you be able to afford repairs? These are some questions you can put into your experience as well. This step should be detailed. Take some time to think and write down your experience neatly and carefully. This section MUST be at least 200 words. Drivers Education Project Scoring Rubric Please review the project outline carefully before signing this form. This project is due by the posted deadline.
