Testing methods covered include color Doppler imaging (CDI) and duplex sonography. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Students Acquire from this Course (Educational Objectives) To maintain, establish and promote the appropriate standards of quality education for students in Lower Extremity Arterial Diagnostic Studies. This program will provide the didactic and clinical experience which will meet or exceed the minimum standards outline in the ARDMS guidelines and Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Course Goals: 1. Students will learn the appropriate patient positioning for a carotid duplex study. 2. Students will learn the importance of obtaining a through history of patient problems. 3. Students will understand the arterial hemodynamics of the extracranial neck vessels. 4. Students will learn the characteristics of normal and abnormal carotid and vertebral artery Doppler waveforms. 5. Students will recognize arterial artifacts. 6. Students will recognize carotid Doppler waveform artifacts. 7. Students will learn collateral pathways of the extracranial vessels. 8. Students will recognize carotid artery pathology. 9.
