The Williamsville School District has 1,413 students enrolled in grades K-12. The student population is comprised of students from Andrew, Sherman, and Williamsville. The School Williamsville High School is a four-year public high school which is accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education. The curriculum consists of college preparatory classes as well as vocational classes. Students may also attend vocational classes at the Lincoln Technical Education Center. WHS offers over fifteen extracurricular clubs and activities as well as fifteen mens and womens athletic teams. Current enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year is 440 students with an average class size of 18. The high school graduation rate is 98.9%. Student to counselor ratio is 440:1. The secondary academic award criteria for the Bright Star Award are based on the ACT of all students tested composite score & the Average Operating Expenditure Per Pupil. In 2007, WHS was recognized for Academic Distinction from the Illinois ACT Council and the ACT Midwest Region. This was demonstrated by the achievement of a Perfect ACT Score of 36 by a 2007 graduate. Curriculum WHS has a strong academic program including Advanced Placement courses in U.S. History, Calculus, English and Art. There are honors courses offered in English, Biology, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and Algebra 2. Additionally, four years of French and Spanish are offered to students. The curriculum is designed to meet the various needs, demonstrated skills and intellectual maturity of its students. Incoming freshman are initially placed into courses based on their standardized test scores (EXPLORE), grades, work ethic, and teacher recommendations from 8th grade. This creates a flexible placement system which allows the student to be placed in the level that is most commensurate with his or her ability. Grading Scale As of the 2005-2006 school year, the Williamsville High School grading scale is: A+ 100-99 B+ 89-88 C+ 79-78 D+ 69-68 F 59 & below A 98-92 B 87-82 C 77-72 D 67-62 A- 91-90 B- 81-80 C- 71-70 D- 61-60 Weighted Grades and Class Rank Class weights range from 6 to 3. Advanced placement classes are weighted 6; honors classes and some college required classes are weighted 5, average classes are weighted 4 and regular special education classes are weighted 3. Weights are assigned to each course, reflecting the academic difficulty of the course. A weighted grade point average is used to determine class rank and is also one factor in determining National Honor Society membership. Graduation Requirements Twenty-seven units of credit are required for graduation. One unit of credit is given for a class meeting daily throughout the year, one-half unit of credit is given for a course meeting one semester. All Lincoln Technical Education courses receive 1.5 credits per semester. High school credit or GPA cannot be earned by a junior high student, but high school courses completed will be noted on their high school transcript.
