Dear Mom and Dad, I know that friends treat each other kindly. When I am kind to others, I am showing them love. Jesus told us to treat others as we would like to have others treat us. We read Mathew 7:12 in the Bible. Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you do ye even so to them This scripture means that if we want others to be kind to us, we must be kind to them. We sang Jesus Said Love Everyone (Childrens Songbook, p. Jesus said love everyone (spread arms out wide); Treat them kindly, too (nod head up and down). When your heart is filled with love (put hands over heart), Others will love you (hug self). My teacher told us about many examples of Jesus being kind in the scriptures. He healed a blind man ( John 9: 1-7). When his disciples tried to send the children away, Jesus told them to let the children come to him and he blessed them. (Mark 10: 13-16). Jesus spent his life helping other people. By being kind, Jesus was showing love for others. Jesus commanded us to love one another. Jesus gave us a new commandment (John 13:34). He told us As I have loved you, love one another Can you help me learn this scripture or the song Love One Another (Childrens Songbook, p. HYPERLINK "http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=637e1b08f338c010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=ce792ddde9c20110VgnVCM100000176f620a____&hideNav=true" \l "1" 136) this week? We learned about a story Jesus told (Luke 10: 30-37) about a Jew who was walking on a road to Jericho. Thieves stopped him, took his clothes, and beat him. They left him on the road, almost dead. Soon a Jewish priest went by and saw the man. The priest should have helped him, but instead he walked by on the other side of the road. A Jewish man who worked in the temple went by. He also should have helped the injured man. But he, too, walked by on the other side of the road. Then a Samaritan came along. The Jews and the Samaritans did not like each other. But when the Samaritan saw the man, he felt sorry for him. Even though he knew that the man was a Jew, the Samaritan took care of his wounds and put clothes on him. Next, the Samaritan took the Jew to an inn and cared for him until the next day. When the Samaritan had to leave, he gave money to the innkeeper and told him to take care of the man. Then Jesus asked them which one of these was like a neighbor. Sometimes it is hard to be kind to someone because that person may seem unfriendly or different from us. I know everyone needs to be treated kindly; even if people seem unfriendly or look different from us (for example, if they have a different color of skin or a disability), we should treat them kindly. It is important for me to show love and kindness to my family. When I am kind to my family, not only is my family happy, but Heavenly Father and Jesus are happy, too. We talked about how sometimes babies or younger children take or break things that belong to us. Very young children dont always understand what they are doing. We need to treat them kindly and not be angry with them. If I have things that could be broken, I should try to keep them out of little childrens reach. Because Heavenly Father and Jesus love everyone, they are pleased when they see us being kind to each other. I know Heavenly Father and Jesus want us to be kind. I can show love to Heavenly Father and Jesus by keeping the commandments, by being reverent in church, and by being kind and helpful to those around us. I am going to try extra hard to be kind this week. Thank you for bringing me to church today!
