The course also discusses various retirement plans available to investors and employees. Additionally, we will introduce principles of portfolio allocation, using mutual funds as the investment vehicle. TEXTS Ernst & Youngs Retirement Planning Guide, Garner, Robert J. et al. GRADING Points are earned as follows: Final examination 120 Homework: 4 assignments @ 10 points each 40 Retirement Planning Project 40 Total points possible 200 Grading will be as follows: 90% + A 80-89% B 67-79% C 55-66% D Below 55% F HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS Four homework assignments are due on the dates listed in the accompanying schedule of activities. Any homework turned in late will be penalized 50%. RETIREMENT PLANNING PROJECT The project is due June 27, 2018. Requirements for the class project are: Use yourself, a friend or relative, to determine annual savings required to fund retirement, using an Excel worksheet or retirement calculators available on the Internet. We will introduce these tools in class. Once the amount is determined, select mutual funds to invest in, based on the portfolio allocation and risk analysis concepts discussed in class. Document your analysis in a written report. As the class progresses, more details will be provided concerning this project. ATTENDANCE Students need to attend all class meetings. If a student misses class, it is the students responsibility to determine what he or she missed. The last day to withdraw with a grade of W is June 19. Estimate the annual amount of savings required to fund retirement. 3.
