This is a three part process consisting of Step 1-Research, Step 2-Make the PowerPoint, and Step 3-Presentation. You must have all of your research completed before you begin your PowerPoint. You must use at least two printed references (not your text book) which are not from the internet. You must use at least three references from the internet. Keep track of all of your references. You will be given the correct format to use to list your references. YOU MAY NOT USE WIKIPEDIA! We will be doing research in the Library Dec. 2, 4, 8. You will need to spend some time doing research on your own. We will be working in the computer lab Dec. 11 and 18. You will not be able to begin your PowerPoint until you have shown that you are finished with your research. Presentations will begin Jan. 5th. You must be ready to present when called on. You must have notes written on note cards or paper to use during the presentation which will be handed in after the presentation. The presentation should be practiced. You should know how to pronounce all words in the presentation. GENTIC RESEARCH PROJECT GUIDE Be sure to record every resource you use. For books, be sure to record the title, author, publisher, and copyright date. For websites, be sure to record the entire web address. If you find an article on a website, you must also record the title, author, name of magazine or periodical, volume number, and date published. Introduction Is there more than one name for this disorder? (common name and scientific name) Is the disorder common or rare? Symptoms What are the symptoms of the disorder? Are the symptoms obvious or hidden? Are the symptoms mild or severe? Statistics (Look for a table or graph which can illustrate the answers to one or more of these questions.) What chromosome is this disorder linked to? Is the disorder a sex-linked disorder? Is the disorder because of an extra or a missing chromosome or other mutation? Is the disorder from homozygous recessive alleles? How many people are born with the disorder? Life Span What is the life span of people with this disorder? Can the life span be lengthened with treatment? If so, for how long? Treatment Can the disorder be treated? If the disorder can be treated, what type of treatment is used and for which symptoms? Does the treatment prolong life? If the treatments do not prolong life, how do they make the person more comfortable or lead a more normal life? Once you have found the answers to these questions, and can show me that you have, you may begin your PowerPoint. POWERPOINT Creative Choices Font Choices Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial, or the font which is already part or your background design choice. Font Colors You may change font colors but be sure that the font colors you pick can be easily seen against the background. Background - You must choose one background design for your entire presentation. Do not use a plain white background. Animation Do not use more than three different types of animation. You do not have to use animation. Pictures - You must have at least one picture somewhere on the title or introduction slide. You may not have any more than 6 pictures in total. Graph or Table You must include either a graph or a table with one of the statistics slides.
