Students learn the importance of soil chemistry and composition as it relates to the growth of economically important crops. Students investigate common agricultural practices as well as alternative methods for growing crops to include hydroponic techniques. Students are also introduced to experimental research using the principles of experimental design. Typical learning activities include hands-on experiences analyzing soils, calculating and applying soil amendments for optimal crop growth, and designing and conducting experiments using the agricultural scientific research lab and the hydroponics green house as well as participating in FFA activities.
