These hymns, songs and psalms offer a variety of themes and convictions, all prescribed by the Church. Look through and select those most meaningful to your family. There are various parts of the Mass for which music may be appropriate. Although the songs are categorized, i.e., Gathering, Communion, Sending Forth songs, many songs listed may be used at other parts of the Mass. Music is integral to the funeral rites. It allows the community to express convictions and feelings that words alone may fail to convey. Since music can evoke strong feelings the music for the celebration of the funeral should support, console, and uplift the participants and should help to create in them a spirit of hope in Christs victory over death and in the Christians share in the victory. All the music selected for Mass should be approved by the celebrant or the minister of music. Non-liturgical songs might better be used at the funeral home or cemetery and are not permitted at the mass. RITE OF RECEPTION AT THE CHURCH The Celebrant & ministers greets the mourners at the entrance of the church. As a baptismal remembrance the coffin or Urn is sprinkled with holy water and the pall may be place on the coffin. The funeral procession then moves into the Church accompanied by an appropriate song. THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN: The Entrance song sets the tone. It will make it clear that you want people to rejoice with you in thanksgiving for the gift your loved ones life has been or that your sorrow is heavy and you need their comfort as well as the Lords. However deep your pain, that sound assures you that you are not alone.
