(Instead of chanting you can sing, swing, stomp or something elsejust like we do in school with the word wall words.) Write your words 3 times each. Write your spelling words with a pen, pencil or crayon. Trace over the word at least 3 times. Use a different color each time. Do this for each of your words. Ransom Words Look through magazines and newspapers to find the letters that make each of your spelling words. Glue them together to make your spelling words. Look at your word. Say your word. Cover your word. Try to write your word from memory. Check to see if you spelled it right. Do this 2 times for each of your spelling words. See how many times you can find your spelling words in a book or around the house. If you have magnetic letters at home, use them to spell out each word. Scramble the word and try to spell it again. Spell and scramble each word on your list. Write words that rhyme with your words. These words do not have to have the same spelling pattern as each of your words. e.g., me, flea, see tree, ski, tea, he For each spelling word, find any hidden words. Write them down. e.g., that at, hat Find the word chunk in your word (if there is one). If you can spell that word, what other words can you spellusing that same letter pattern? Write them down. Do this for each of your spelling words. e.g., bat cat, hat, sat, acrobat Draw a letter frame around each letter in your word. Pay attention to the tall letters, short letters and letters with tails. Spell the words with alphabet macaroni or cereal. On a piece of paper scramble the words for your child and have him/her unscramble the words. For example: write ( pre-write, writing, writer, writes, rewrite, overwrite On a piece of paper create a word search for your child and have him/her find the words.
