From 1915 through 1920 one plate was issued. In 1921, Chapter 278, Sec. 6, of the state laws began the two plate requirement. The effective date of this requirement was April 21, 1921. The practice of issuing plates with a county prefix was initiated in 1922. Plates were usually issued annually until 1943. In 1943, 1944, 1947, 1953 and 1959 metal revalidation tabs were issued. Since 1960 decal type revalidation tags have been used. In 1951 only license plates employed an alphabetical system, instead of the traditional county number system. All classes of plates issued followed the color scheme indicated for that year, but in some years only the passenger vehicle plates bore special designs.
