This also includes supervising and consulting with staff and faculty on issues related to grant, contract, idea development and submission, program management, and college communications and publications (PR). The Associate Dean also facilitates the growth of interdisciplinary projects and centers. This office represents the College to other units within Purdue (Provost, Vice President for Research, Sponsored Programs, etc.) as well as outside agencies (e.g., NSF, U.S. Department of Education, NIH, private foundations, etc.). The College is comprised of roughly 70 tenure-track faculty, 40 full time staff, and a significant number of additional part-time faculty and other support personnel. With some 900 undergraduate and 500 graduate students, the College is comprised of two main departments with 18 undergraduate and 25 graduate degree programs. The overall operating budget is approximately $17 million. In the past 4 years the College has made more than 26 faculty hires, completed a 5 year strategic plan, and participated in the Universitys capital campaign. Some measures of success include the raising of $16 million in foundation monies, the establishment of 6 new interdisciplinary centers, a 300% increase in external grant submissions, more than a tripling of external funding, large increases in the number of collaborative projects by faculty, and an improvement in our national ratings. Previous Professional Employment (Administration) Professor & Chair, Department of Child and Family Studies and Professor of Communication Disorders, California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), August 2001-July 2004: The Chair, is responsible for all academic, fiscal and personnel matters in the department. During 2001-2004 the department was the largest on campus in terms of credit hours generated with approximately 1300 undergraduate and 200 graduate students, 10 full time faculty (tenure track), 3 full time staff, roughly 7 part time faculty, and additional part time staff. During 2001-2004, 3 new faculty were hired, and there was an increase in external funding and grant submissions from roughly $0.0 to $1.5 million. Faculty scholarship improved in spite of heavy teaching demands, publications increased and several promotions were shepherded through successfully. It was also necessary to deal with articulation and accreditation demands of California state that required a revision of the entire curriculum. This department was recognized as one of the leaders on campus for its faculty and student diversity. Budgetary cut backs and union issues required a creative approach to leadership. Director, Multidisciplinary Human Biology Program, University of Kansas (KU), August 1996-June 2001: The Human Biology Program involved a coordinated interdisciplinary curriculum comprised of the Departments of Biology, Communications Sciences & Disorders, Anthropology, Psychology and Human Development. The program had several specialized courses that were supervised or taught by the Director (e.g., Human Biology seminar) and then it utilized already existing faculty and courses in the aforementioned departments. From 1996-2001, the program was completely overhauled with new requirements, the addition of a BGS degree, and the establishment of a Human Biology Advisory Committee. It became one of the more popular undergraduate majors on campus, grew to some 250 enrolled students and took its place as a main conduit at KU for post BA medical school and allied health professions.
