Simmers, PPD Assistant Director and Acting Chair of the Licensing Committee Region: Central New York Reported By: Ed Freeborn- National Director, Central New York Region Current Activity: Jim Plasker was the keynote at the NYS GIS Conference and participated in a subsequent breakout session with Sara Frankenfeld of Warren County NY, and Daren Morgan of NYSAPLS. The conference had around 400 people registered for the plenary session, and there were around 80 people at the breakout session. SBELS may not move forward with the draft legislation, so NYSAPLS is going to proceed on their own. When they have a draft available, a copy will be distributed to the relevant ASPRS committees and individuals. DETAILED REPORTS AVAILABLE: CNY ASPRS Ad Hoc Model Law Committee CNY Region National Directors Report-July 2002 -Status of NY Surveying Definition review and Model Law activities - 7/8/02 CNY Region National Directors Report-August 2002 Region: Columbia River Reported By: Margo Blosser- President, Columbia River Region Tom Pagh- National Director, Columbia River Region Current Activity: Oregon- A task force has been formed to try and sort through the issues. The biggest debate at this point in time is the Certification or Licensure of GIS Professionals. A subcommittee has been formed to make recommendations regarding GIS Certification. No perceived opposition from any parties regarding the Licensure of Photogrammetrist but currently the efforts of the task force are focused on the GIS question. The Oregon task force is not planning to try for any changes to state statues during the upcoming legislative session. It is felt that more time is need to get all professional groups on board with the Model Law and Licensure. DETAILED REPORT AVAILABLE: Letter to members outlining issues and recommendations Region: Eastern Great Lakes Reported By: Charles Olson- National Director, Eastern Great Lakes Region Current Activity: No activity to report from Michigan. Information was not obtained from Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Region: Florida Reported By: Scot Smith- National Director, Florida Region Pam Nobles- Chair, Florida Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers Current Activity: Florida currently licenses Professional Surveyors and Mappers. This has encompassed the activities of photogrammetry since 1994. Currently, for anyone to become licensed in the State of Florida they must have a bachelor's degree and four years of experience. Region: North Atlantic Reported By: David Bowen- National Director, North Atlantic Region Current Activity: The North Atlantic Region has not taken on this issue with our general membership, except for much discussion among the Board members. We have been contacted by the Central New York Region to share ideas; they have forwarded their initiatives for our info. Would like to see National provide the Regions with more guidance and a "boilerplate" policy that can be shared with members, and probably more importantly, those not in our profession, but who review/make decisions on such initiatives (politicians).  In other words, we need a lay approach to this issue in order to gain understanding and credibility. Region: Potomac Reported By: John Simmers- Member, Potomac Region Licensing Committee Larry Pettinger- National Director, Potomac Region Current Activity: Virginia- Potomac Region’s licensure committee has formulated a report and is working with PR members, ASPRS HQ, state surveyors, GIS professionals, and others, to establish consensus on definitions and issues. Virginia’s Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) is considering developing the licensing language themselves based on a one year evaluation period which would be throughout 2003 with subsequent legislation possible in the 2004 General Assembly session. DETAILED REPORT AVAILABLE: Report to members outlining issues and recommendations Region: Puget Sound Reported By: Terry Curtis- National Director, Puget Sound Region Current Activity: No recent activity, but belief is that the enforcement of current law as interpreted by LSAW and Board might be next step. Region: Rocky Mountain Reported By: Allen Cook- National Director, Rocky Mountain Region Layton Hobbs- Rocky Mountain Region Current Activity: Generally- no current activity. New Mexico-  State Board will formally review/adopt new model law and begin examining photogrammetrist licensure issue. No timeframe has been established. The remainder of the regions did not submit a report. lрс§ˆ\xЬхчr Ц у d f К = N P ГФХЦѕі')*;БЬnoьk|~ >tњїїѓїюѓъуїиїюбїЬїїїѓїїХїїюїъ OJQJ^JCJaJ B*CJphџB*OJQJ^Jphџ OJQJ^J5\ B*phџ6]CJ 5CJ\,Cl}~рсту§Cˆ\xЬIJKcЁдњњјієіђђ№іъъффпкдпђђ№вШ „а„а^„а`„а„а`„а & F & F„^„7$8$H$$a$t§дъ r Ф Х Ц у .
