We will break down into 3 parts:TABLETS - We currently have 80 tablets ready for Dec 2018. District will test week of Dec 10, 2018. Before students bring their own devices to school, District wants to ensure both teachers and students are equipped to use the technology. Goal is to have students be able to bring their own tablets sometime after March Break. Erin questioned value of this. Mr. Daigle brought up 4 points: 1) using apps, not just for research, but learning tools, 2) students can create portfolios, 3) Enrichment, 4) Sharing info.SOCIAL MEDIA – Filters, firewalls will be in place to avoid social media use while in school.TIME MANAGEMENT – Mr. Daigle will consider hosting an evening for parents, teachers, and students to discuss technology. “No one is an Expert” type theme. To occur this Spring.Principal’s ReportGeneralThe semester is moving quickly, we only have approximately 4 weeks left before the exam. We will go through our first set of exemptions at the end of this semester. The process is simple, during the last week before?an exam student?who want to apply for an exemption will do so before Wednesday. By Friday, they will know if the student’s exemption is accepted or not. The feeling at school is overall?good, but?there is a little cabin fever going on. Many students are already feeling trapped inside and have a lot of work to be done; the weather certainly has not been cooperative.Changes at BMHSThe homerooms have been very advantageous for many reasons. We use this various homeroom day in many different ways. We sometimes have a short homeroom that?gives us time to do short surveys or to connect with students on?a fundraising campaign. We also use our long homerooms to kick off new campaigns such as “Fill the Bus” or today where we did a little promo preview of the Mamma Mia Drama Production. This new flexible structure gives us more opportunities to promote important event and participation while keeping the interruptions to a minimum. The grade 9 advisory groups are presently working on academic interventions based on need or enrichment (Math, English and Science). These?interventions?were directed and are happening 3 times a week. They also have 2 days a week of stretch learnings, these were picked by the students and are usually?built?to help student explore new ideas (crafts, horrible histories, book club, drama, environmental, leadership)We also created a study hall time during the hoop spirit games. We had a few students that were directed to the Library for more intensive help on assignment completion and then, we created many different areas in the school where students could go to get support from a teacher or simply a quiet place to work on academics. This structure gives a chance for students to get support in their learning as well as prepare for summative assessments. Meanwhile other students can focused on school spirit and to support our players. Teachers’ PLOn November 23rd, teachers had a good professional learning day. Our PL committee put together a great day of learning. We started with some technical learning: Office 365, a few ways we can use this as teams in the classroom and as professional. We then moved into?working, learning?on how to help students that are experiencing anxiety, test anxiety, oral testing as well as chunking. In the afternoon teachers picked two different sessions of their choice on different strategies to use with all students. These strategies were based on series that promotes student engagement in their learning. And we finished the day with some collaborating time in our teaching teams.Teacher’s Report Exams week of January 2, 2019. Teacher vs. Teacher Ball Hockey Tourney fundraiser to be held Dec 5, 2018.
