WHAT’S HOPPENING IN 2ND GRADE?

GOOD-BYE, DANIEL!

The 2nd graders said good-bye to one of their classmates, Daniel Braddock, on Friday, October 24th. Good luck, and we will miss you, Daniel!

SPELLING WORDS FOR THE WEEK:

There will be a test over these words on Thursday, October 30th.

VOCABULARY WORDS FOR THE WEEK:

These words will appear on the reading test on Thursday, October 30th. A list of definitions for these words will be sent home with your child on Monday, October 27th.

DISMISSAL TIMES FOR THE WEEK

School will be dismissed at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. Due to Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, school will be dismissed at 2:00 P.M.

NO SCHOOL THIS FRIDAY

There will be no school this Friday, October 31st, due to Parent/Teacher Conferences.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

As a reminder, Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 30th from 3:00-7:00 P.M. and on Friday, October 31st, from 8:00-11:00 A.M. You should’ve received a notice about your scheduled time in the mail. If you are unable to attend at your scheduled time, please contact Sarah or Shannon in the office. They will notify me, and I will schedule a time that is more convenient for you. I look forward to seeing everyone!

AWARDS ASSEMBLY THIS THURSDAY

The 1st Quarter Awards Assembly will take place this Thursday, October 30th, beginning at 8:00 A.M. in the Cornell Grade School Gym. Your child may be recognized for the following: having an October birthday, Road Runner, Perfect Attendance, all As on Spelling Tests, earning 15 or more A.R. Points, Student of the Month, and ROAR Ticket Totals.

HALLOWEEN PARADE AND PARTY THIS THURSDAY!

A day of great anticipation for the students is the day of our Halloween Parade and Parties! The parade will be from 12:30-1:00 P.M. and will be outside, weather permitting. Children may not wear their costumes to school, but may change into them prior to the parade. Class parties will take place from 1:00-1:50 P.M.

LIBRARY DAY CHANGE

Library will be on Wednesday instead of Thursday this week. Please have your child return his/her library books to school on Wednesday.

BOOK ORDER DUE

The Scholastic October Book Order is due on Thursday, October 30th. If you are ordering online, please use the code HYP3J to place an order.

IT’S RED RIBBON WEEK!

This week, everyone at Cornell Grade School is celebrating Red Ribbon Week, which is a week to promote living a drug free life. As part of our celebration, the students and faculty/staff at C.G.S. are encouraged to wear special attire for each day of the week:

Monday- wear camo

(“Join the Fight Against Drugs”)

Tuesday- wear athletic clothes or a team jersey

(“Stay in the Game, Be Drug Free”)

Wednesday- wear pajamas, K-4 students may bring stuffed animal

(“Follow Your Dreams and Don’t Do Drugs Because They’re Unbearable”)

Thursday- wear red to show your commitment to being drug free

(“Look at Me…I’m Drug Free!”)

1st QUARTER AR TOTAL

I’m pleased to announce that the 2nd graders finished with 92.4 Accelerated Reading Points for the first quarter! This is a great effort on everyone’s part! I know they really want that end of the year party, and they only need 307.6 more points to earn it!

BOOK-IT! REMINDER

For those students participating in the Pizza Hut Book-It! Program, please return your October Calendars, with a parent signature, no later than Wednesday, November 5th. If you lost or misplaced your calendar, please have a note, signed by a parent, that the child read 400 minutes for the month. I will send the November Book-It! Calendars home on Monday, November 3rd.
