Foreign Language Requirements for College AdmissionThere isn't any college in North Dakota that requires foreign language as an admission requirement, but many colleges out of state have this requirement. If you plan to go to college out of state, it is important to investigate early during your high school career to find out if you need foreign language to be admitted to the college of your choice. For a complete list of out of state colleges that require foreign language for admission, visit http:/disciplines/foreignlanguage.(Please Note: there could be more postsecondary institutions that are not on this list. Through AP courses, students develop writing skills, problem-solving techniques, and study habits that prepare them for college academics. They also study subjects in greater depth and detail, and rather than simply memorizing facts, they will be expected to develop and support their own arguments and perspectives. Each AP course has a corresponding voluntary AP Exam that is administered at the end of the course, usually in May each school year. The fee for each exam is $84.00. Taking an AP Exam allows students to experience a college-level exam now, while still in high school. Their work will be evaluated by unbiased college and university professors and AP teachers using college-level standards. Because the College Board is committed to providing access to AP Exams to all students—including home schooled students and students whose schools do not offer AP—it does not require students to take an AP course before taking an AP Exam.By achieving qualifying AP Exam grades, high school students can earn college credit or advanced standing at most of the nation's colleges and universities, as well as at colleges and universities in 40 other countries. At many of these institutions, students can earn up to a full year of college credit (sophomore standing) through a sufficient number of qualifying AP Exam grades. Individual colleges and universities, not the College Board or the AP Program, grant course credit and placement. Because it varies from school to school, students should obtain a college’s AP policy in writing. This information can be found in the institution’s catalog or on its Web site, or by using the AP Credit Policy Info Search at ap/credit policy. The North Dakota Dual Credit Law (SB2033) passed in 1997 allows qualified high school juniors and seniors to received high school credit for the college courses completed. Students registering for a Dual Credit Course are responsible for college tuition and a once in a lifetime application fee to the college granting credit. Check with the main office at our school to see which classes Rolette High School accepts for dual credit.CLEP (College-Level Examination Program)The College-Level Examination Program? or CLEP provides students of any age with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. CLEP is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the United States today, helping students of a wide range of ages earn credit for what they already know, regardless of how that knowledge was acquired. By receiving a satisfactory score, students can earn from 3 to 12 college credits toward a college degree for each CLEP exam taken, depending on the exam subject and the policy of the college or university. Each exam costs $80 as of July 1, 2014, plus any service fees payable to the testing center. Test centers usually charge $15 to cover administration costs.
