Online learning self assessment

Online learning self assessment Name:

Question 1:

As it is stated on your syllabus, this course will require you to spend 6-9 hours per week to be successful (pass with at least C).

List your obligations (other courses you are taking, your job, take care of your family member(s), time set aside for social life, etc), assign how much time you would spend for each of the listed activities. Be sure to budget for every 3 units course, you should be spending 6-9 hours per week.

There are only 24 hours in a day, you realistically have about 14 hours a day free to your self (10 hours for sleeping, eating, & other basic necessities). Write your evaluation on if you have enough time to commit to taking course(s).

Question 2:

Although distance learning offers many advantages compared to the traditional classroom, it is not for everyone.  Next to each statement below, place a number between 1 and 5 indicating to what degree the statement applies to you.  A “1” would mean that the statement DEFINITELY apply to you, a “3” would mean that the statement SOMEWHAT applies to you, and a “5” would mean that the statement definitely DOES NOT applies to you.  Be honest with yourself, as this survey will help you determine if your personal characteristics are suitable for an online course.

Again, 1 means yes, 5 means no.

1. _____ I have good reading and writing skills

2. _____ I normally meet deadlines

3. _____ I have 9-12 hours per week to devote to this course

4. _____ I am comfortable with navigating the Internet and have access to high speed connection.

5. _____ I have basic word processing skills

6. _____ I am comfortable in a self-study environment

7. _____ I feel comfortable asking an instructor for help when needed

8. _____ I am a very organized person who is good at prioritizing tasks

9. _____ I am aware that this online course will require more work than a traditional course

Total:

Add up your points.  If you score more than 20 points, you may have difficulty successfully completing this course--as the above characteristics are critical in an online environment.

If you score more than 20, you certainly can still stay in class, but let me know how I can help you develop those necessary skills or point you to one or more of MtSAC 's campus facility to help you.

Please write your reflection, including your plans / methods for success in this class.
