The Newsletter Resumes

Sorry for the delay in getting the Newsletter out the past several months,

My `good' writing and graphics computer has been in the repair shop since before Christmas. It's back, but still not 100% up to speed (waiting on a part still).

I'm trying to make sure I have everyone's brags and welfare items in, but I may have lost a few items with all the technical difficulties. If you see I have missed one of your brags or items, please resend it and I'll be sure to get it into the next month's newsletter.

Sorry everyone for the delay!

New Year and New Brags....

From Randy Simmons

When we went to the dog show in Tallmadge, OH a couple weeks ago, I thought Nachtisch needed 12 points and 2 majors to gain grand championship.

Well, he was select dog on Friday for 1 point, Best of Breed on Saturday for 5 point major and Best of Breed for 5 point major on Sunday. Eleven points, on point short. Monday evening

I checked his AKC records and discovered I was wrong by 1 point. He only needed 11 not 12 points.

I had an experienced person review the record Tuesday evening to confirm this, she did. Thus, on 5 January 2020 Nachtisch earned his Grand Champion Title.

From Tyne Horvath

HONEY WEIMARANERS: "Honeys Valkyrie Starr Sapphire, NA,CA,CGC,TKN" finished her Novice Standard Agility Title with a 1'st Place at YABTC's Agility Trial in North Jackson OH, on 11-30-19.

At just 16.....yes, this 16 year old, determined and driven young lady, drove her 15 month old boy into his AKC championship in just 9 months!

This in and of itself, is such an accomplishment for this young lady! She had the perseverance to succeed and put a champion title this dog all by herself! We are beyond proud of her!

Jenna also works with her Doberman, Ember, and is working toward their next rally title. She plans to study animal science and behavior when she goes to college.

From Laura Bell for Karen Mikulin.

Her Ridgeback, GCH CH PACH3 Terracotta's Victor Newman MXP9 MXPG MJP7 MJPG PAX2 T2BP6 TKI, earned his 3rd PACH (Preferred Agility Champion) on October 13th 2019.

He also just earned his MXCP, which stands for Master Excellent Century Preferred, that a dog gets after achieving 100 qualifying scores in standard agility.

Victor was also shown at the 2019 Rhodesian Ridgeback National Specialty, while he didn't get the judges nod, he made his cut and strutted his stuff around the ring.

From Diane James

Bash is now AKC Ch Fallfire Gun Runner going BOW at the Lima KC shows in Columbus to finish with a 4pt major.

Congratulating Karen Mikulin & Victor on a Historymaking 2019 By Alex Hart

After the 2019 AKC Agility rankings had been processed, it was clear that 2019 had been a history-making year for Agility Rhodesian Ridgebacks!

Mikulin, earned the top ranking. This was Karen and Victor's second consecutive year as the #1 Ridgeback team in the Preferred classes. And--after I spent much time examining all the available online ranking publications (end-of-year AKC Agility statistics and Bad Dog Agility Breed Power Score rankings)--I am quite certain that Victor made history in 2019 by becoming the very first Ridgeback to earn the title of PACH3!

Both Victor's ranking and his 3 PACH titles are even more remarkable given the fact that, due to her work schedule, Karen is limited to competing with Victor only on Sundays.

Additionally, because Victor only started competing in Agility at the relatively older age of 5 years old, his top rankings and PACH titles have all been earned in his Veteran years!

I feel very lucky to often be at the same Agility trials as Victor and Karen, as it is truly a pleasure to watch this team run.

I'd like to hold an Obedience Instructor's meeting on Monday, February 17th, at 7 pm and an Agility Instructor's meeting on Tuesday, February 18th. Kim and I will conduct it, just to go over our "P's and Q's" for the year, and to make sure everyone is on the same page. Curriculum, instructors and assistants responsibilities, aggressive dogs, registration, off-lead evaluations, mentoring, etc.!

Important Information for the March YABTC Agility Trial

Interested in being more involved in the agility program at YABTC? We have a few job openings for motivated people!

- Scheduling Workers We need someone to put together the worker schedules for our agility trials. We only have 1ring trials so this task is not as daunting as the 2-ring trials used to be!

- Timers for the agility trials We need someone to keep the timers up to date and ready to use for our agility trials. This requires checking the batteries, buying new batteries, sending the timers in for updates (rarely, but as needed), setting them up at the trials, etc. Ideally, this person would also be at the trial In case something goes wrong with timers.

- Equipment Helper We need someone to help maintain, repair, and oversee the agility equipment at the club. You would assist Tim Dillon at this job, especially with us having more trials at our building it's important to have more than one person doing this task. This task requires some heavy lifting and painting.

If interested please contact Laura Bell at camopup12@

March Agility Trial

Slideshow Photos Needed!

Dear YABTC members,

Have you ever had a dog who had cancer? Would you like to help us create a slide show in memory or honor to your dog? If so, we need your help!

At our March 13, 14, 15, 2020 Agility trial, we are going to have a slideshow again with pictures of YABTC dogs who have had this terrible disease.

Several activities are being planned to raise money to send to Love, Vincent, a local charity that sends personalized gift baskets for owners with dogs having a recent cancer diagnosis.

The charity does a great job to provide support at a critical time! The trial is being dedicated to Canine Cancer Awareness. We will be having a St. Paddy's Memorial/Honor RunThru on Friday after the trial too.

We are accepting donations to this cause from anyone who wishes to help us to meet our goal of $1000 and would like their dog showcased in memory or in honor in the slideshow.

* Your donation is OPTIONAL. If you are unable to give that's okay, but much appreciated! We need your pictures!*

Scan 1-3 pictures of your dog and send to Laura Bell, camopup12@ and she will put them into slideshow format. The higher the resolution, the better. YABTC has the BEST members, so please help us to make this a success!

Pictures will be accepted NOW through the END OF FEBRUARY. Please include your name, your dog's name (along with titles), and life dates, if known (ex.March 22, 2004- Nov. 11, 2014) and if your dog was a survivor.

Questions? Feel free to contact Laura or me. We hope to see a lot of green at the trial!

Go Green for Canine Cancer!

THANK YOU!

And the winner is...

LAURA BELL!

Congratulations Laura on winning this years Goods Sportsmanship Award! I can't imagine anyone more deserving of this award! I am sure not many know all the hats that Laura wears for YABTC.

Not only does she serve on both the Agility Training Committee and the Agility Trial Committee, she is also co-instructor for Intermediate Agility where she develops new and interesting sequences each week. She is truly dedicated and the only time she misses class is if she is out in the woods shooting at some animal.

She is in charge of the Agility Run-Thrus and she helps maintain the equipment. Also help with building cleaning on Monday mornings during agility months. She helps with clean up, set up and tear down for our agility trials, and she does both the worker schedule and food sign up for those trials, and is often found in the ring working when there is an empty spot.

Of course, she also sets up the photo booth for those trials and takes pictures for anyone that asks her. She is a great trainer, believing in positive reinforcement training, always being friendly to prospective new students and old members, I don't think I have ever heard her say a bad word about anyone.

Whenever asked, she writes for the newsletter (though I didn't ask her to write this one), and also writes for other dog related publications. She also writes the proposals to the board for the training committee.

Remember Summer Game nights? Well, Laura is helping JoAnn Fedyski to put those on.

She shows her dogs in AKC agility and UKC conformation, and is a great representative for YABTC. And she does all this because she simply loves all dogs!

For those that know her, we know se can always count on Laura to get things done.

So again:

CONGRATULATIONS LAURA AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!!!

Thank You from the Agility Committee

THANK YOU ALL that came out to YABTC over the Holiday break to participate in the Agility activities!

We put on 10 mini-seminars and had just as many open gym times. The seminars focused on Course Building, 2x2's, Rewarding Right, Preserving Drive and ClickTricks-Focus.

These sessions were actually way more popular than we had expected, and we ended up bringing in $765 in donations towards the new dog-walk!!!

So again, Thank You to ALL that taught, participated or kept the building open for Gym time during Holiday break 2020! It is definitely something we will try to do again in the future!

Lotta

I spy with my little EYE!

From Laura Bell

I wanted to make sure a special group of individuals who work really hard to help keep the club clean are appreciated for taking the time to clean every week like they do.

It's no easy task to do that entire floor at the club.

For 5 years, Ieuan Lewis has led the cleaning crew on the odd months at the club. He, his wife Merrill, JoAnn Fedyski, Cheryl Christy, and Peg Palma and Reine Grohl also during the summer, all take part in the weekly cleaning.

They vacuum the large floor, use the shop vac around the parameter, empty the poop buckets, clean the bathrooms, and more. Talk about dedication! They start around 910am on Tuesday mornings and then finish up by going to lunch together afterward. They deserve a big thank you for taking on this big job for so many years.

Thank you on behalf of the entire club!

Rally Regulations ? Editorial Clarifications

by AKC Companion Events Department

The newest Rally Regulations book has a pink cover and is dated February 1, 2019. The date is correct. This newest book is a reprint of the previous book. Listed below are the judging editorial clarifications.

Chapter 1 Section 15. Transfers. Transfers may be approved provided the class is scheduled, the judge is available, and the class has not reached its limit.

Section 16. Entry Eligibility, Change of Entry. (added at the end of this section) Judging Procedures Regarding Eligibility.

When the eligibility of a handler or dog to compete is in question, the matter should be referred to the Event Committee. When the Event Committee determines, from the information available, that a dog or a handler is ineligible to compete in the class, the handler is to be informed of the requirement of the AKC Rally Regulations that make him/her ineligible to compete. If any alternative exists (such as substituting an eligible handler to replace the handler who is ineligible to take the dog into the ring), it should be suggested. If the handler insists on competing, regardless of their or the dog's eligibility, then it is the duty of the secretary or superintendent to point out to the handler that the judge will be requested to judge the dog "under protest," and the dog or handler's eligibility to compete will be reviewed by the AKC.

The secretary or superintendent should inform the judge of the situation, requesting that the dog and handler be permitted to compete. The judge then permits the dog to compete. Judges are required to make a notation in their Judges' book when they encounter a situation where an exhibitor or dog is not eligible to show under them at an event. This report should give identifying information on the exhibitor and dog and a brief statement as to why, in the opinion of the judge, the handler or dog was ineligible. It is the responsibility of the trial secretary or superintendent to provide a concise, factual statement of the problem in the official AKC show/trial report. The AKC will make a determination based on what has been reported. If it is
