| |Early years appreciation day | |

| |Early years staff have worked incredibly hard to continue crucial care and ensure that our youngest children do not miss out on the early stages of | |

| |their education during the pandemic. | |

| |Today we join the wider community in paying tribute to their vital work in caring for our youngest children. Thank you to all those working in early | |

| |years and for the difference you are making every day for children and their families. | |

| |Online safety | |

| |Keeping children safe online remains a top priority for Department for Education. It is more important than ever given the amount of time children are | |

| |spending online. | |

| |In collaboration with partners in the UK Council for Internet Safety’s Education subgroup and the Samaritans, Department for Education has provided new| |

| |guidance and advice for schools and colleges, that will support their approach to tackling harmful online challenges and online hoaxes, whilst keeping | |

| |children safe online. | |

| |The UK Council for Internet Safety’s Education subgroup, in consultation with the National Police Chiefs’ Council, have also recently updated guidance | |

| |for education settings working with children and young people. The guidance provides advice on responding to incidents and safeguarding children where | |

| |nudes and semi-nudes are shared, including images, videos or live streams online. | |

| |National Tutoring Programme – subsidised tutoring available | |

| |All state-maintained schools can access tutoring, subsidised by 75%, through the National Tutoring Programme (NTP), to support pupils (aged 5-16) who | |

| |need extra help. The NTP aims to ensure that high quality tutoring is available in all parts of the country to disadvantaged pupils who need the most | |

| |support to catch up. | |

| |Schools can search for approved NTP Tuition Partners and enquire directly with providers. Online tutoring can be provided to pupils at home or in | |

| |school during lockdown and can play a key part in re-engagement ahead of the return of classroom teaching. Tutoring can also booked in for delivery | |

| |when all pupils return, including as a continuation of previously online tutoring. | |

| |This includes specialist provision for supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). 26 of our 33 providers are able to | |

| |support students with SEND, including 17 providers who are able to support students in special school settings. | |

| |The NTP are running information webinars for all state-maintained schools, where you can hear directly from tuition partner organisations and learn | |

| |about the subsidy. You can join the national webinar on Tuesday 2 March at 4pm or see if one is running in your area. | |
