ART HISTORY PRESENTATIONS

CONTENT

• Students will prepare a 20 minute oral presentation on a specific historical movement in the evolution of art.

• Presentations will be done in groups of 3 or 4 and will include:

A. An in depth visual and theoretical analysis of a particular period of art.

-When and where did this period take place?

-What world events influenced the art of this period?

-What visual characteristics, techniques, and media best exemplify the art/architecture of this period?

-Who are some of the key artists and architects of this period?

-What are some connections between this period and current practices in art, design and/or architecture?

B. Images of works that best exemplify the stylistic characteristics of the period.

(Minimum of 5 images & you can include more than one image per page)

Please use: (Time Line of Art History) in addition to other researched sites for power point images.

C. Three discussion questions that will be presented to the class at the end of the presentation. Questions should address the relevance of the period to current society.

D. A presentation handout (for class), outlining key points and images discussed in the presentation. (Discussion questions will be included on this handout.

• Following their presentation, each group will provide the following for the teacher:

1. Task sheet outlining designated responsibilities of group members and the general dates they were completed.

2. Source Log (MLA)

3. Handout (copy)

EVALUATION

• Presentations will be evaluated based on:

A. Content; coverage of key historical facts and knowledge of the topic.

B. Effective use of power point.

C. Effective use of discussion questions; engaging audience.

D. Delivery; audibility and coherency.

ASSESSMENT

• Self Assessment: Students will report on the progress of their group during the planning process.

• Teacher Assessment: (Ongoing) Students will meet with the teacher during the process of planning for and researching of presentations. Assessment will be based on the quality and quantity of research and planning being executed by various group members.

• Peer Assessment: Groups will be assessed by small peer groups (audience) following each presentation.
