NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

It is hard to believe that we are in the fourth marking period. This has been a great year and our students continue to work very hard! It is always amazing to see the progress children can make in just one short year.

We have many great events planned for the last month and a half of school. Please take time to look at the calendar so you don't miss out on anything. Grade levels will be sending home information about end-of-year picnics soon. We will also be doing a summer reading and math packet this year. More information will be provided in the June newsletter.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

A SPECIAL "THANK YOU" TO RESISTERSTOWN TEACHERS!!!!

During the week of May 6-10 we will be thanking our amazing teachers for everything they do to support our boys and girls...academically, socially, and emotionally. Our faculty at Reisterstown is outstanding, and we are so fortunate to have such a competent, professional, and committed group of individuals working with our boys, girls, and school community! The PTA has planned many thoughtful activities throughout the week to show our faculty/staff their appreciation. Think about having your child write their teacher a note thanking them for their kindness and hard work.

NURSE'S DAY National Nurse's Day is Monday, May 6th and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Nurse Starling for the genuine care she provides to our boys and girls at Reisterstown Elementary School. Through lost teeth, asthma attacks, tummy aches, scraped knees, and overall not feeling well, Nurse Starling always has a smile on her face as she assists everyone with health issues.

RESIDENCY VERIFICATION

As outlined in Board of Education Policy and Superintendent's Rule 5150, STUDENTS; Enrollment and Attendance, parents are required to verify residency information for students transitioning from 5th grade to 6th grade. If you have not stopped by our school office to verify your residency, please do so soon. Deadlines are fast approaching and failure to provide transition year residency verification will result in the withdrawal of your child. Residency must be verified by May 31, 2019.

TESTING Throughout May and June 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be participating in State mandated testing. Your help is needed and appreciated. We ask that you make every attempt to be sure your child is present and on time for school, to make sure they do not miss their testing sessions. Students who are absent or arrive late will need to make up the testing. We understand that emergencies happen, and we will work with your child to make up testing if needed. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you are unsure when his/her class will be testing. Thank you!

For the safety of all students and staff, please make sure that your child only brings a plastic water bottle to school with them or in their lunch. A few students have brought in glass containers and they have been accidentally dropped and the glass has shattered in the cafeteria and hallway. EARLY DISMISSAL To maintain the safety of our students, we do not dismiss students between 2:30 and 2:55 PM. If you need to pick your child up early, please make sure to arrive before then. Also, if you know ahead of time that you will be picking up your child early, please send a note to the teacher that morning. Executive Functions: What's the Big Idea?

Participants will examine how executive functions (EF), often referred to as the "hidden curriculum," can impact a student's success in the classroom. EF skills are a group of brain-based abilities that help students "execute" a task from start to finish and self-regulate one's behavior. Similar to other academic and learning skills, some students may need varying levels of support and intervention. Strategies for teaching and reinforcing specific EF skills will be shared. Presented by Beth Lambert, SST/ 504 Facilitator, Baltimore County Public Schools Wednesday May 8, 2019, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Reisterstown Library Meeting Room Tuesday May 21, 2019, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Arbutus Library Meeting Room
