Vaucluse Public School

K-6 Learning Package

Dear Parents

The staff at Vaucluse Public School have worked thoughtfully to put together a comprehensive Learning Package for our students that is practical to deliver at home and at school. It should be noted that the Learning Package that is being sent home is the same learning that is being supervised at school. Please note that should there be a need for your child to attend school at any time, send the package with them. It is expected that the Learning Package will be returned when school is in full attendance.

Activities sheets / overviews will be uploaded to the school website and emailed to class parents for distribution. They will also be included in the packages. The school will continue to communicate on a daily basis through the School App.

Learning and Support

Our Learning and Support Coordinator – Margaret Nay has suggested the following tips:

• Structure your day. Get up at the same time each day. You may suggest your child puts their uniform on. You may wish to do a Literacy Block in the morning. Break for morning tea. Then you may wish to do a Numeracy Block and break for lunch and a play. The afternoon may be devoted to theme activities, craft, art, music, games, fitness, cooking, board games, card games, jigsaw puzzles, etc. keep in mind that every thirty to forty minutes it is good to get moving.

• You may wish to intersperse activities with DEAR time, an Audible Book, shared reading, crunch and sip, quick fitness activities, singing and dancing to the current favourite song, online yoga and/ or meditation.

• You may wish to incorporate our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) expectations: Be Respectful, Be Safe, Be a Learner, for daily use at home.

• You may also wish to turn your home into a Kindness On Purpose home. You may wish to set this up at the start of each day by reflecting on what actions we will all undertake to be kind. This will assist in creating a cooperative environment. Your child may like to create kindness IOUs such as unpacking the dishwasher or bringing in and folding the washing. You might like to discuss each day how you are going to fill each other’s bucket.

Class Parents

• We suggest that each Class Parent or a Tech savvy parent in the class set up the class to interact socially using Zoom, google hang out or facetime. (Techies may have other suggestions for group socializing which could be shared via the class parent structure).

• We have also included on the school’s website the information for activities that was sent home last week.

Finally, yesterday, Anita Arnold, in her capacity as Vaucluse Public School P&C vice president and Class Parent Coordinator sent me a post she had read online. I have asked her to share it with class parents. I think it helps to put everything into perspective around learning at home. I also hope it will assist in helping you not to feel overwhelmed.

Over the last few days we have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support of our parents. We have a shared goal. We are in this together. On behalf of the staff we thank you for your best wishes.

Please see below information about an e –library that has been recommended by our Librarian Miss Laura Caesar. If you wish to subscribe to this e-library which Miss Caesar says has great books you will need to email the school at Vaucluse-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au as the school needs to enrol each family separately. Miss Caesar will then manually enrol each student.

Hi family of Maureen H.,

We have been using this useful learning tool in class called Epic - the largest and safest digital library for kids. It allows students like yours to freely explore their interests for endless learning fun.

To keep kids reading and learning during a prolonged school closure, Epic is offering all our students FREE REMOTE STUDENT ACCESS through the end of the school year (June 30).

Using Epic at home can help us stay connected to our students by assigning books and monitoring their progress. This truly beneficial screen time (reading!) can also be a valuable tool for parents as kids spend more time at home.

Sign up now using this email address and you'll be automatically connected to our classroom.

Happy reading!

Ms. Caesar
