?Using the OneDrive for Business (ODFB) Sync Client at UWSPOneDrive for Business (ODFB) is UWSP's Cloud storage system available to all faculty, staff and students. The OneDrive for Business sync client will automatically be installed August 3, 2018 . If you are already using the sync client you will receive new settings that enable new features.WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? Because myFiles (aka H Drive) will be discontinued as a service May 2019. Microsoft is also ending support for Windows 7. All Windows 7 computers must be upgraded to Windows 10 before January 2020. The upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 will overwrite any files you have stored on your local computer. You are strongly encouraged to move your important files to your UWSP OneDrive for Business Cloud Storage.Following is information to assist you in:Configuring your OneDrive for Business (ODFB) sync client so that files can be easily saved to your locally installed sync client, and from there, automatically synced to your backed up OneDrive Cloud Storage.Moving files currently stored on your computer hard drive and desktop to your locally installed sync client where they will be backed up in your OneDrive Cloud Storage.6225510338IMPORTANT: The OneDrive for Business (ODFB) sync client installs and configures for each account. The first time the ODFB client installs or updates it may take up to one minute to complete and your desktop may blank out for about one second. Once finished, an ODFB sync client Cloud icon will appear in your system tray.Configure your OneDrive for Business (ODFB) Sync ClientOnce your OneDrive for Business (ODFB0 Sync Client is installed, it must be configured.The ODFB sync client exhibits different behavior depending on:the version of Windows currently installed on your computerwhether you have been using ODFB prior to the campus roll out. To configure your ODFB Sync Client, you need to know your Operating System and Version. You have this operating system and version if ->Your Windows Start button is:And your ODFB Sync Client Cloud icon is:Windows 10 1709 ->Windows 10 1609 ->Windows 7 ->To begin, click the ODFB Sync Client Cloud icon found on your computer’s System Tray.Your Computer is Windows 10 1709 If you have no data in the cloudThis means that the sync client was never configured on your machine. The ODFB client will install, log in automatically and will be ready to use with no additional configuration necessary. ODFB is ready for you to sync files as soon as you see the blue clouds icon in the system tray. You can now open your sync folder and move your files. See “Move Files to the Cloud Using ODFB” farther down this document.If you already have data in the cloudIf you had previously configured your OneDrive sync client and are already storing files in the cloud, Information Technology recommends that you check your sync settings and choose the option to “Make all files available”. NEW: The latest version of Windows 10 version 1709 also introduces a new feature called "Files on Demand" which will be enabled by default. This useful feature will display all of your files stored in the cloud but only download files when needed, saving space on the computer hard drive. Windows 10 1607 and Windows 7 do not support the "Files On Demand" feature as does Windows 10 1709 (above). You must choose the files you wish to have synced. With “Make all files available” and “Files on Demand” enabled by default you will see all files available for use without having to sync a local copy.Example of a One Drive sync folder after enabling “Make all files available” with “Files On Demand” enabled. To set often-used files to always sync copies to the local hard drive (for example, if you travel frequently and do not always have a reliable internet connection), right-click the file and choose "Always keep on this device".Your Computer is Windows 10 1607 or Windows 7 The first time the ODFB sync client automatically installs you will see a blue cloud icon with a red circle in the system tray. Click this icon to finish the setup process.Once you click the ODFB sync client blue cloud icon on your task bar, a “Finish setting up OneDrive” box opens.If you have no data in the cloudIf you have never used the OneDrive for Business Sync client checking “Sync all files and folders in OneDrive – UWSP” is optional. Or select only the folders you wish to have synced.If you already have data in the cloudIf you already store files in the cloud and would like only certain folders copied down to your local sync folder select only the folders you wish to have synced. Or check “Sync all files and folders…”.Note: any files and folders that you now copy to the sync client are selected for sync automatically.Move Files to the Cloud Using ODFB We highly recommend that you take the time to configure your OneDrive for Business (ODFB) sync client and move all important business-related files to your ODFB sync folder. Storing your files in the cloud provides the following advantages:Files synced to the cloud are in a central storage repository accessible from any computing device with access to the internet such as your tablet, laptop, desktop and phone.Share and collaborate in real time with others to draft and edit Microsoft Office files. OneDrive for Business provides file versioning.Files in the cloud provide disaster recovery in the event of computer failure. Think of any data stored on your computer as a single point of failure and possible data rmation Technology will expect you to be the steward of your data and will no longer back up and transfer your files to a new replacement computer.Use Windows Explorer (Windows 7) or File Explorer (Windows 10) to move your files from your Desktop, Documents, Pictures and myFiles folders to you ODFB sync folder . IMPORTANT: OneNote has its own built in syncing functionality and notebooks must be moved to ODFB using the OneNote application. To move a OneNote notebook follow these instructions.To move files from your local computer to your OneDrive-UWSP Sync Client:Open Windows Explorer or File Explorer to display the files you want to sync, sizing Explorer to cover half of your computer screen.Open a second Windows or File Explorer to access the OneDrive folder, moving it to cover the other half of your screen.Move the files from all folders with important data such as Documents, Desktop, Pictures, etc. to the OneDrive folder(Optional) Log into Office 365 to view your synced files in your OneDrive cloud storage at : Close any opened files before moving or deleting.OneNote NoteBooks require a special procedure and cannot be moved like a normal file. Feel free to move all files except OneNote notebooks. To move a OneNote notebook follow these instructions.The detailed screens that follow are from Windows 7 but apply to Windows 10.Open Windows Explorer or File Explorer to display the files you want to sync, sizing Explorer to cover half of your computer screen.In Windows 7 click your Start button and select Documents. In Windows 10 select the File Explorer folder on your Task bar. From the left of your File Explorer folder, select the folder where your files are stored. If you have files to move files from your desktop, select “Desktop”.Resize File Explorer so it covers about half of your computer screen. To do this, position your mouse cursor along the outer edge of the box. When you see a double-headed arrow, you can click and drag the edge to resize.Left-click and hold the top of the File Explorer box with your regular mouse cursor to move the box to one side of the screen.Open a second Windows or File Explorer to access the OneDrive folder, moving it to cover the other half of your screen.To easily move your files from your local computer to your Microsoft OneDrive Sync Client, you will want to open a second File Explorer box, then position both side by side. This second File Explorer should display your open OneDrive Sync Client.In Windows 7 click your Start button and select Documents. In Windows 10 select the File Explorer folder on your Task bar.Move this second Windows Explorer box to the other side of the screen. At the left in this second Windows Explorer screen, select your OneDrive Sync Client, “OneDrive – UWSP”.When you have finished, your two File Explorer screens will be positioned side-by-side. In one, your “OneDrive – UWSP” will be selected. In the other File Explorer screen, select a location on your local computer that contains the files you want to move. Remember, if you save files to your desktop, you will need to select “Desktop” to view and move files.Move the files and folders from all locations with important data such as Documents, Desktop, Pictures, myFiles aka Hdrive, etc. to the OneDrive folderNow that you have two File Explorer boxes open, you are ready to move your files and folders from your computer to your OneDrive - UWSP folder.IMPORTANT: Close any opened files before moving.Select a file or folder in your local computer’s Windows Explorer box.Right-click and select Cut from the short cut menu.In your open OneDrive - UWSP Sync Client, right-click and select Paste (or click and press CTRL+V).Another option to move files is to drag and drop.Select a file or folder by pressing with your left mouse, then while holding the left mouse down, drag the file or folder from your local computer to your OneDrive – UWSP. Release your left-mouse to drop.(Optional) Log into Office 365 to view your synced files in your OneDrive cloud storage at to speed things up when moving filesTo select a range of files/folders, Select the first file, then press and hold your keyboard’s Shift key while you select the last file in a range. To copy your selection, release your Shift key and right-click one of the selected files, then select Move from the short cut menu.To select multiple files/folders that do not fall within a range, Select the first file, then press and hold your keyboard’s CTRL key while selecting additional files/folders. To copy your selection, release your CTRL key then press Ctrl+X (Cut), or right-click one of the selected files or folders and select Cut from the short cut menu.Dragging and Dropping: For either of these options, you can also drag and drop by dragging one of the selected files or folders. The rest of your selection will follow.Other important tipsIf you are moving a large number of files at once it can take a long time for the OneDrive Sync Client to process and sync to the cloud. Just give your sync client time.IMPORTANT: If you are moving many files WATCH YOUR SYNC CLIENT icon in your computer tray! Your SYNC CLIENT icon will let you know when your files have completed syncing with your OneDrive cloud storage.(Optional) Log into Office 365 to view your synced files in your OneDrive cloud storage at into UWSP’s Office 365 portal, with your UWSP account.Select OneDrive. You will see that the files moved to your local computer’s OneDrive – UWSP Sync Client have “synced” with your Office 365 OneDrive cloud storage.You can also log into from any computer or mobile device to access your files.? What if Office 365 OneDrive doesn’t display files you just moved into your local Sync Client?Be patient. Files and folders may take some time to sync – especially If syncing many files. ................
