WHAT IS EDGE?

EDGE is an after-school enrichment program that offers classes in science, technology, art, sports, and music. EDGE is run by Holmes PTO volunteers.

REGISTRATION

To register for EDGE classes, please visit .

Registration opens: August 30 at 9 a.m. Registration closes: September 5 at 5 p.m.

You will need to create your family's account prior to registration. Profiles from prior years are not saved in ClassTrack. Each child needs a complete profile, including current grade, teacher, pickup instructions, emergency contact information, and any health-related information. You can view the class schedule now, but classes will not be open for signup until August 30 at 9 a.m.

PAYMENTS

ALL PAYMENTS ARE DUE UPON REGISTRATION. IF PAYMENT IS NOT MADE WITHIN 48 HOURS OF REGISTRATION, CLASSTRACK WILL CANCEL THE REGISTRATION.

PayPal is the only method of payment and should be done online at signup. PayPal accounts can be linked to bank accounts and credit cards.

Grants: If a student currently qualifies for free or reduced lunch, that student also qualifies for an EDGE grant for one class per EDGE session. The grant allows the student to take any EDGE course for a fee of $20. The $20 fee is paid by the parent/guardian. Further information is in the FAQs and online at .

EDGE POLICIES

All class payments are due at signup. If payment is not received within 48 hours of signup, the student will be dropped from the class.

Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. A notification will be sent via

e-mail and an alternate class or refund will be offered. No refunds will be issued once registration closes. No refunds will be issued in the event of school closings or cancellation of District 97

after-school programs. Children must be picked up on time after class from the school lobby. After 5

minutes, students are transferred to Apollo After School for a $20 fee, paid to Apollo upon pick up. An adult (identified at signup) must sign children out. Repeated late pickups or disruptive behaviors in class may result in the child being excused from the session without a refund. If a vendor does not arrive at Holmes to teach as scheduled, students will be supervised by the EDGE assistant.

Acting Up by The Actors Garden

You will have a great time Acting Up after school! With fun and exciting theatre games, students learn the basics of

creative dramatics and explore theatre concepts through acting out stories and plays. This class is all about fun as we

learn about theatre!

Basketball by 3Point Athletics

cost: $105

(K ? 2nd grade) Wednesdays 2:00-3:00

Come out and play! Students will have fun learning the fundamentals of the game of basketball with unique drills,

games, and contests that will keep them active after school. Lots of team and game play!

Best Buddies by Ms. Jirka, Holmes Teacher

(2nd grade ? 5th grade) Thursdays 3:00-4:00

Come make a best buddy! This class is a social program to facilitate friendships among students with and without

disabilities. Students will participate in fun activities, make crafts, and play games with their peers at Holmes school!

Cheerleading by Ms. Harris, Holmes Teacher

(2nd grade ? 5th grade) Mondays 3:00-4:00

Ready to pump up the crowd? Then come join the EDGE Cheerleading group! We'll work on cheers, chants, and fun

cheerleading moves, all while learning about good sportsmanship.

Back to school is in full swing as we present a bountiful selection of drawings that introduce our students to a

fascinating world of color, pattern, and design. We say farewell to summer in our detailed still life drawing of a beach.

We explore color usage and composition in our chameleon and fire truck drawings. In keeping with the season, our

stylized fall leaves drawing challenges our technique and color scheme. Students will learn cultural themes as they

draw and color Kawaii inspired art. All this and more awaits your child in a Young Rembrandts classroom!

Dynamic Chess by Dynamic Chess

Dynamic Chess is a wonderful opportunity to introduce one of the oldest and most popular games to our youngest

students. The fundamentals of chess teach players competition, composure, compassion, humility, and strategy. It is

no wonder the game is compelling and addictive!

Extreme Sports by Mr. McDonald and Ms. Rigali, Holmes Teachers

Extreme Sports is an EXTREMELY fun EDGE class! We take the best of a variety of different sports and mash them

together into more elaborate, fun games! Each week we learn a new game that students of all ages can play and enjoy.

Extreme Sports offers the opportunity for the Holmes School general education and special education students to

interact, work together, and have tons of fun! How could we possibly combine Hockey and Soccer or Football and

Basketball into the same game you might ask? Come check out Extreme Sports!

Floor Hockey/Dodgeball by Legacy Sports Camp

Legacy Sports Camp combines two of the most exciting sports in one class. Students will play in fast-paced floor

hockey games as well as fun games of dodgeball. Sticks and goggles will be provided.

Games Galore by Mr. Williams, Holmes Teacher

Taught by Mr. Williams, Games Galore will include floor hockey, dodgeball, soccer, Capture the Flag, basketball,

Soldiers and Spies, Activator De-Activator, Pins and Balls, and more! Through game play, boys and girls can better

understand and appreciate interacting socially, cooperative play, teamwork, individual effort, and good sportsmanship.

Learning and playing games across grade levels contributes to positive physical, mental, social, and emotional growth.

Giving Artfully by Giving Artfully

The Giving Artfully Kids after school program teaches children they can make a positive impact in the world through

crafting. We believe that the process of creating is a valuable tool to teach kids about the concept of giving. Each week,

we will discuss a social issue and then craft an item to give to someone or to an organization to show children how

their own effort, skill, and time can make a difference and help others.

Guitar Stars by Afterschool Enrichment Solutions

Have fun learning to play the world's most popular musical instrument! Current research has shown a strong link

between learning music and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts.

Students will learn the fundamentals of guitar playing, including holding the guitar and pick, proper fret-hand finger

position, sight reading, playing by ear and playing basic songs. No previous knowledge of guitar or music is necessary.

iCook After School by iCook After School

(K ? 5th grade) Tuesdays 3:00-4:15 OR Fridays 3:00-4:15

iCook is a fun, hands-on cooking program for children. The mission is simple: to teach children to love food by cooking

and eating delicious, healthy dishes while learning about nutrition. We make every experience fun because we start

with great recipes, fresh ingredients, colorful cooking stations and engaging activities. We also teach basic table

Intro to Programming by Computer Explorers

This course will introduce the concepts of programming with Logo. Students will create projects using iconic point and

click commands while developing math, logic, and problem solving skills.

Intro to STEM with LEGO by Play-Well Teknologies

Ratchet up your imagination with tens of thousands of LEGO? parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as: fire

trucks, space stations, tugboats, and the Eiffel Tower. Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest

Irish Dance -- New Beginner by Marianne Rehfield, Holmes Teacher

If you love to jump, kick, hop, and dance to lively music, then this is the class for you. Come learn the basic steps of

beginning Irish Dance with 4th grade teacher, Ms. Rehfield. New students will learn the first steps of the traditional

Irish jig as well as hop-2-3s for the Irish Reel. Don't miss your chance to join our Irish dancing club!

Kickin' It Soccer by Mr. Dolan, Holmes Teacher

Kickin' It will introduce students to the basics of soccer such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Students also will

grow to appreciate the game as they gain insight into the sport's great players and moments in history.

Let's Build It: Robotics by Afterschool Enrichment Solutions

cost: $120

(2nd ? 5th grade) Tuesdays 3:00-4:00

Enter into the fascinating world of robotics. In this exciting STEAM program, students will design, build and test their

very own robots under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Projects include remote control cars, claws, cranes,

crawlers, and battle bots. Educational components include gear ratios, mechanical design, electronics, and robotics

engineering. No previous experience is necessary, just a desire to have fun, build, and learn.

Live! Holmes School Glee Club by Keys2Broadway Educational Theater

Let the drama begin! Students will learn kid-friendly vocal arrangements of popular musical theater, up-tempo, and

ballad songs. They will experience the beauty of singing in harmony while properly supporting their vocal instrument.

In addition to singing, they will learn fun choreography and add a smidgen of drama with costumes and props to

create an exciting and rewarding performance. All of this hard work will hit the stage for a live performance at the end

of the session.

Minecraft -- A Networked Adventure by Computer Explorers

TechStars grants you access to a PROPRIETARY Minecraft world you can't get on your own! Learn fundamentals of

computer networking through this unique Minecraft experience that also allows you and your friends to work in

multiplayer mode as you mine, craft and build together to survive. Working with a partner, use your skills to explore

all the secrets the world has to offer, including a mysterious castle filled with challenges. No matter whether you are

new to Minecraft or already love the program, this program is for YOU!

Mission Propelle (GIRLS only) by Mission Propelle (Instructor: Ms. Rigali, Holmes Teacher)

Mission Propelle empowers girls in elementary school to discover who they are, what they believe, and how to advocate

for themselves. We accomplish this through an after-school program that combines yoga, reading, and mentoring. In

each class, girls develop mindfulness and self-confidence as they practice yoga. They learn how to solve problems by

reading original storybooks starring Dottie Tov, a relatable and age-aligned female protagonist. Throughout the class,

girls learn to apply leadership skills in their everyday lives as they receive situation-based mentorship from trained

instructors. All girls receive digital downloads of the original storybooks each week! Learn more at

STEM Gadget Creation by Code Play Learn

(3rd ? 5th grade) Wednesdays 2:00-3:00

Each week students will construct a gadget they can bring home. Our projects will allow students to explore how

motors, circuits, and energy work to build contraptions such as an ArtBot, Lantern, Zipline Rocket Ship, Windmill,

and more.

Taekwondo by Flying V Martial Arts

cost: $95

(K ? 5th grade) Thursdays 3:00-4:00

Taekwondo classes offer a total fitness program integrating mind, body, and spirit. The program focuses on improving

not only basic motor skills, but developing students' confidence, self-esteem, and respect. The program consists of a

balanced cardiovascular workout, including punching, kicking, and blocking skills while using self-control and the

Taekwondo tradition. Participants will improve coordination, power of concentration, balance, and both physical and

mental discipline. All skill levels can be accommodated. A uniform (Dobok) is optional for this class and may be

purchased through the instructor. Belt testing also is optional and offered through the Flying V Athletic Center for an

additional fee.

Video Game Lab by Computer Explorers

cost: $125

(4th ? 5th grade) Thursdays 3:00-4:10

Let's create a game on the PC with Xbox controllers! Using a visual programming language, students can learn about

creativity, problem solving, and collaboration. Students will stretch their imaginations to design and build fun-filled,

challenging games to share with family and friends. Students will get a copy of their game after the class is complete.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):

When can I register for classes?

You can go online to anytime to set up your family account, but classes will not be open for registration until August 30 at 9 a.m. Class registration will close on September 5 at 5 p.m. Remember your password if you set up your account early!

What if I miss the registration period? Can I register late?

Unfortunately, no. Each registration requires multiple steps and our team of volunteers is not able to continue processing registrations after the registration period.

How do I know if my child got into our first-choice class?

You will know immediately if your child got into the class you chose. If a class is full, there is a wait list available for the first 5 children. Otherwise, no further registrations will be allowed.

If I register online, do I have to pay by credit card?

No. You must pay with PayPal, but PayPal accounts also can be linked to bank accounts.

When is my payment due?

Payments are due immediately upon registration. If payment is not made within 48 hours, ClassTrack will automatically cancel the registration. This is to ensure spots are not "held" and to allow other families the opportunity to schedule the classes.

How are EDGE registration fees used?

We pay the majority of fees collected to EDGE instructors. We also pay the EDGE assistant, fees for PayPal, and fees for the ClassTrack software. Any remaining funds support grants and PTO programming.

How do grants work?

How do I know if my registration went through?

You should receive a confirmation email right away. If you don't receive one, it's possible your registration did not go through or perhaps you did not type in your email address correctly. Simply log back into the system and check on your account and class registration status.
