EL FUTURO Scholarship ApplicationDue Thursday, April 30, 2020(Please read all the details of this packet before submitting an application)Welcome to the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SHCC) Foundation Scholarship Program. The Foundation, a subsidiary of the SHCC, maintains as one of its core values, the need to provide financial support through scholarships for qualified Latinx students in the Sacramento region. Since its inception we have awarded more than $620,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors and community college students through the SHCC El Futuro Scholarship Program.The 2020 El Futuro Scholarship Program will award several $1000 scholarships. Each year, one applicant, who shows exceptional scholastic, leadership, and community involvement is chosen for the Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. Scholarship and receives a scholarship award of $1500.General Eligibility Requirements. At the time of application, applicant must meet the following minimum criteria:Currently enrolled at an eligible high school or currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at a California Community College at the time application.Must be of Hispanic/Latinx origin.Must live in the Sacramento Six-County Regional area: Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Sutter, Yolo, & Yuba counties.Intend to enroll in a four-year college or university or a California Community College [in at least 12 units]Application Materials. When filling out the scholarship application, please be sure to answer all requests for information. How will this award help you achieve your goals?Community Involvement/Service: Describe your current and previous high school, college, and community service activities (include volunteer work). How has this service impacted you?Financial Need: Describe your financial need and how you are financing your college education.Transcripts: Attach an unofficial transcript of your high school and/or college course work.2 Recommendation Forms: Obtain two recommendation forms, preferably from an employer, teacher, counselor, business or community person. The forms should evaluate your academic potential, public service, financial need, leadership experiences, and other factors indicating your potential for future success.Certification: Sign the application and certify that all information is true and accurate.Supplemental Materials: Do NOT submit any supplemental materials.Deadline for Applications. You must submit the application and all requested materials to the SHCC by Thursday, April 30, 2020. Postmarked date of Thursday, April 30, 2020 will be accepted. You may also scan all materials and email them to info@. with Subject Line: 2020 El Futuro Scholarship Application.Screening. SHCC Foundation Education Committee members will determine recipients of scholarship awards.Notification. All students selected for awards will be notified by May 31, 2020; and will receive an invitation to a Scholarship Celebration. Details regarding the Scholarship Celebration will be provided in the invitation. Students not selected for a scholarship will receive a written notification via email.Disbursement of Funds. Scholarship checks are disbursed July 2020-October 2020. Students must provide verification of registration (a class schedule), still meet scholarship eligibility requirements and submit a thank you note to the donors who made this scholarship possible before a check will be generated or disbursed. Specific instructions and deadlines for obtaining scholarship checks are provided with each scholarship award certificate. Scholarships will not be held for use at a later date.Authorization. By submitting an application, you (the student) authorize the Chamber to publicize your name in the event you are awarded a scholarship.Privacy and Security: The data that we collect from you will only be used for the purpose of determining your eligibility for scholarships, and will be protected from outsiders.BEFORE MAILING, REVIEW THESE IMPORTANT POINTS:It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all materials are provided with the application.Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
