Dear Advanced Band Parents:

We cordially invite you to attend the Wilmington Spring Band Festival. This concert is formatted as a “vertical concert” to showcase all of the band students in Wilmington in grades 4 –12. The date for this concert is TUESDAY, MAY 7, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Wilmington High School Gymnasium. In order to prepare the Advanced Elementary Bands from the North and West Intermediate Schools to perform together as one ensemble in the concert and Memorial Day parade, it will be necessary for them to participate in three (3) rehearsals: two at Wilmington Middle School and a dress rehearsal at Wilmington High School. The rehearsal schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, May 1, 20189 **2:00 – 4:00 PM @ WMS Band room:

NIS students will depart school at 2:00 PM to go by bus to the West Intermediate School

WIS students will depart their classrooms at 2:15.

All Advanced Band students will walk to the Middle School

Students must be picked up from the MIDDLE School at 4:00

**Parents of students who attend CARES after school must notify the CARES programs that their children will be at this rehearsal.

Tuesday, May 7, 2019 9:00 – 11:15 AM - Dress Rehearsal @ Wilmington High School

NIS Advanced and Beginning Band students will depart school by bus at 9:00 to go to Wilmington High School and return to school at 11:15 AM.

***Tickets and band t-shirts are distributed to the students at this rehearsal.

6:30 Students report with parents to Wilmington High School Gym for warm up and tuning.

7:00 PM Concert (lasting approximately one hour)

Thursday, May 23, 2019 2:00 – 4:30 PM @ WMS – Marching Band Rehearsal

ALL STUDENTS MUST WEAR SNEAKERS AND HAVE SUNGLASSES OR CAPS AT THIS REHEARSAL. WOODWIND/BRASS PLAYERS MUST BRING THEIR LYRES.

NIS Band students will be bussed to the West at 2:00 PM

WIS Band students will be dismissed from their classroom at 2:15 PM.

All of the band students will walk together across the street to the Middle School for rehearsal on the

soft ball field and/or auditorium.

Parents pick up students at the end of rehearsal from the auditorium at 4:30 PM

(This rehearsal is ONLY for those Band students who are marching in the Wilmington Memorial Day Parade on Monday, MAY 27, 2019. Students who would like to march in the parade, BUT are unsure about conflicts with sports tournaments should attend this rehearsal in the event that they do not have a conflict with sports. ) **Parents of students who attend CARES after school must notify the CARES programs that their children will be at this rehearsal.

Monday, May 27, 2019- Wilmington Memorial Day Parade

All elementary band students meet at Wilmington Plaza to march in the Wilmington Memorial Day Parade. Meeting time is 9:30 AM, and students finish at the 4th of July Building at 11:45 AM.

Band students who traditionally march with the Scouts may elect to wear their Scout uniform and march with the band, to represent both groups.

Transportation

There is no transportation available following the after school rehearsals on 5/1/19 and 5/23/19. Parents are requested to pick up their children promptly at the conclusion of band rehearsals by coming into the Middle School. For safety reasons, no student will be released into the parking lot unattended by a parent or guardian.

Rehearsal Preparation

To be prepared for these rehearsals, band students must bring their instruments, band music, pencils, coats, book bags and any homework materials. LYRES are necessary for the woodwind and brass players for the Marching Rehearsal. Please be sure to label all instrument cases. Both the students and their teachers are aware of our expectation that any work/tests/ assignments missed in order to attend these rehearsals is the responsibility of the student to make up in a timely fashion.

Concert Dress and Ticket Info

As this performance will be videotaped and shown on WCTV, we encourage students to look their best. For this spring concert and the Memorial Day Parade, students are requested to wear the following attire:

-Wilmington Advanced Band T-shirt.

(White and blue) If you cannot find the one that was purchased last year, OR if it is not in good condition, a new shirt can be purchased for $8.00 (checks payable to Performing Arts Dept.).

Due with permission slips.

-Dark Pants (Blue or black, no jeans/sweats) For the CONCERT.

-Dark Shorts (Blue or Black, no sweats) For the PARADE

Please complete the attached permission slip and shirt order form and return it to your child’s BAND teacher before FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 2019. Ticket order forms are attached to this permission slip. Tickets for this concert will NOT be sold at the door. Friends or family members who are unable to attend will be able to view the entire concert on WCTV.

Tickets and shirts will be distributed to the students at the dress rehearsal on May 7, 2019.

***Students who want to participate in the parade but are unsure about conflicts with sports tournaments on Memorial Day should plan to attend the rehearsal on 5/23, that way the student will know what to do in the parade if their team does not end up advancing in a tournament.
