Re: Offset review request + request to suspend offset completely

Dear Offset Review Unit:

I request a review of the offset. I ask that you suspend the offset completely.

I am a divorced-single-mother of three children. We live in a two-bedroom apartment in North St Louis City. We're currently three months behind on our $650 per month rent and our landlord has begun eviction proceedings.

Not only are we about to be evicted but we're also struggling to pay our other living expenses. Our gas, electricity, water, and trash are all past due; every company has sent shut-off warnings. For our food, we depend on coupons, donations, and sales on generic staples to eat. Most nights we fill our stomachs with rice and either beans or some chicken.

The reason for our financial troubles stems from both my recent divorce and job loss. I divorced my husband last year. He has yet to make any child-support payments. As for my job, I lost it about seven months ago when I was laid off from my job as an administrative assistant. I now work about 30 hours a week at my neighborhood grocery store earning $10 an hour. (That's about half of what I was earning at my previous employer.)

Based on my income and expenses that I've detailed for you in an enclosure, I'm asking that you completely suspend the offset of my tax refund. By suspending the offset, you will allow me to use my refund to get current on my rent and utilities.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best,

Enclosures
